Said this well before the season started: Winston's 5-star ranking was completely unwarranted. He played on the best prep team in the country next to some of the best talent in the country. Used his size and athleticism to push smaller kids around and pad his stats rather than really developing his fundamental basketball skills. He was a decent passer because he was dishing the ball to Ashley and Bennett...Look at Marshall, avging 5.3 assists per game. Going by the numbers he's a great PG but anyone who actually watches the games knows your grandma can get 5+ easy assists per game just handing the ball to Bennett in the paint and watching him do his thing. Funny how recruiting rankings are like the word of God when the Rebels get a highly ranked player. When a highly ranked player shuns UNLV the ratings were B.S.

I haven't watched every SDSU game, but judging on numerous threads started here about Winston's poor play it seems self-evident that he isn't

If I were you I would stop obsessing about SDSU and start worrying about the fact that you have no point guard. 9 of 11 soon to be 11-13.

It's awfully hard to say what is going on with Winston right now...So far, I haven't read one thing about his bad attitude and backtalking to coaches that isn't outright speculation...I haven't heard anything directly from the coaches or players that indicates that he is a problem or that he's not a team guy. It's certainly possible, but it's also possible that he is simply just an intense dude who is hard on himself for making mistakes. These threads are looking an awful lot like the pack of jackals who were looking for any excuse to bash on Rocky after each of the early season games.
We should all want this guy to achieve his potential (which is enormous) because it will simply make us a much better team....rather than celebrate and jump all over him for every turnover and early season struggle as he adapts to this level, new position /responsibilities, speed of the game and his role on the team.
I'll sit back and wait until I hear and see something definitive about his "bad attititude" before I pass judgment unless someone can show me a quote from a player or coach that would indicate that he is some sort of problem child.

You'll get that quote, NEVER. Nobody's gonna reveal that kind of stuff. I've seen the banter between Winston and Fisher and it wasn't kind. I get it that Winston's frustrated and he wants to do well, but to argue with a coach like Fisher, who's a father figure type, is not good to say the least. Winston will hopefully learn from this, and become the player that he was hyped to be.

MY REAL CONCERN ABOUT Shep is that he wears really, really, really tight jerseys. With a chest that small it makes him look weak. It's almost like he's trying to compensate for being so thin. I think he should get rid of the extra-small and put on the medium jersey and his game (and attitude) would improve dramatically.

I WAS THINKING ABOUT WINSTON SHEPARD AND HOW HE DOESN'T CALL HIS MOM ENOUGH. WITH A FATHER FIGURE COACH LIKE STEVE FISHER YOU HAVE TO BE SURE TO CALL YOUR MOM. IF YOU DON'T FISHER WILL SET YOU STRAIGHT, EVEN IF THAT MEANS MORE TIME ON THE BENCH BEING GROUNDED FROM YOUR CELL PHONE.
I ALSO HATE HOW HE LICKS HIS LIPS WHILE HE HAS DINNER. CHASE AND SHELTON NEED TO TAKE HIM ASIDE AND FIX HIS TABLE MANNERS. HE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW WHAT A SALAD FORK IS FOR GODS SAKE.
HE IS CLEARLY JUST ANOTHER ALEC WILLIAMS SPENDING TOO MUCH TIME THINK ABOUT HIS GIRLFRIEND AND NOT ABOUT BASKETBALL. HE SHOULD BE MORE LIKE JAMAAL AND WATCH CARTOONS.

This thread should be off topic? Make it a political thread if you want. We have already run one player out of town by posting ridiculous comments about his girl friend, weight, moping attitude, lack of focus...etc..etc.etc. That past thread went on for two years until he transfer. The last thing i want to see is another player transfer because of bitter fans on this board.
I thought personal attacks on other AM members or players would result in some type of temp suspension from this board. This are student athletes and we should be sticking up for them instead if bashing on them. Winston is actually trying very hard its just taking him sometime to adjust to the college game. People should read alittle on his background to figure were he has been and hopes to be. I trust Fisher in continuing to work with him to become a productive member of society. This thread started on a friendly comment and went a bit overboard.

Give fisher credit.

After watching Winston the whole year, I am not impressed at all. Compared to the Freshman version of Kawhi Leonard. Tonight I was thinking his handles are not even close enough to be a point guard, and his passing is not that sharp either. Throw in his spoiled brat antics and you get a kid who will not last the season with SDSU. I predict Shepard will be gone before the 2nd semester starts and Shriggs will come off his redshirt status. I have no patience for Shepards baby boy antics anymore. Don't let the door hit you on the way out son. Sometimes as a leader if have to tell your charges to either shape up or ship out. This isn't UCLA...have a little more faith in Fisher...how many recruits have left us vs. how many volatile personalities has this coaching staff turned around....there was no track record of him being a head case in HS that I'm aware of....if he's this huge problem child, he won't get minutes....simple as that...we'll see soon enough.....also some of you guys only pay attn to one end of the court....playing defense well will carry a lot of weight with our coaches

People need to chill. Alec, Rahon, Winston, J-Frank, who's next? These guys will be emotional or struggle but at the end of the day they are Aztecs and every game is a learning opportunity. People even criticized Kawhi bc he wasn't a good interview. Geeze.

This thread is ridiculous. Like others have said Fisher obviously knows what he is doing. There is no need to constantly criticize a freshman 9 games into the season. All kids are different regardless of how highly touted they are. Some come in and are ready to go as we see bith Bennett at unlv but then there are a lot that take time to adjust before they make a huge impact. Even Shabazz struggles at times as we saw in the game against UCLA. Winston seems to be getting more comfortable each game and I felt he had some nice plays last night. He is young so he his obviously going to make mistakes. That's where fisher and the veteran players come in and support him and show him how to act. People need to have more patience and trust in Fisher. With all the game time experience Winston is getting he is going to come out next year and be a big impact player for us.
There is a reason no fans on here are the coach so don't act like you have the solution!
