He got a t when Kamba flopped in the sweet sixteen, some argue he cost us the most important game in Aztec history Those arguments are dead wrong. Kawhi picked up a similar unneccessary Technical in the 1st half that gave him him 3rd foul. He had to sit for a long stretch then play the 2nd half with his hand in his pockets. I recall Jeremy Lamb lighting it up vs. Kawhi. Nobody eve mentions that. Instead they place the blam on a guy that played a total of 6 minutes. During those 6 minutes, Jamaal was the spark of the Aztecs run with his defense on Kemba, a charge and a steal that led to an easy 2....no body ever mentions that though.

Seriously BBA? How self-important do you have to be to title a thread "BBA Returns?" Unbelievable. Did you have the Rocky theme music playing in the background when you sat down to compose your post-ban message? And yup, you picked right up where you left off, mentioning Jamaal in your second sentence. Silly me, I had to remind myself that the Aztecs were in fact, a team, and not just one hothead. How long before your next suspension, anyway?
Trust me, I don't take Kawhi's Technical Foul in the UConn game lightly. He screwed up and it didn't help his team one bit. Kawhi's early foul trouble and Technical Foul were pivotal early on and we went into the locker room at the half down by 9. However, we climbed back into the game and took the lead midway through the second half (like we did all that year). We were winning with all the momentum in the world; we smelled blood. And then Jamaal pulled a Jamaal. The ensuing events have been beaten to death, but I do know that his technical foul had much more importance to the outcome and end result of the game than Kawhi's.
I think Kawhi and the Aztecs were switching off defenses for that game and while Kawhi was on Lamb, he was also on Oriakhi a lot of the game (it was during one of those times when Kawhi got his T early on). I'm not sure that Kawhi was solely responsible for defending Lamb.
Anyway, BBA, it's ok to admit that your boy has a bit of a character flaw at times when he's on the court. It's already been displayed and it has had dire effects.

BBA. VERY ACCURATE POST! I think your defense is VERY good good. I knew polee would suck. he sucked at st johns. I think o brien has potential I think unlv sucks. And in a single simple, beautiful sentence, I became a huge supporter of BBA.

I did not get suspended or banned, I just decided my contribution on this board is too valuable to deprive folks like you from all the relevant things I have to say. I've said it a million times, go look at the tape, Jamaal singlehandedly created that momentum we enjoyed. He had Kemba rattled. When he went out of the game, that's when Kemba went off. He scored all his points on isolation plays shooting over Tapley. Jamaal's aggression and athleticism kept Kemba from creating that space he needed. That and Tapley's cold shooting is why I feel Jamaal should have been left in the game to finish the job he started. We'll never know what would have happened. But you can't blame a loss on a guy that only played 6 mins. Especially when we had plenty of possessions remaining in the game.

A couple of observations:
* No one has forgotten Kawhi's T. It was almost identical to JF's T in it's impact on the flow of the game. Only Kawhi's T happened in the first half. Both T's happened with a 5-pt. SDSU lead. However, they were different in two respects. Kawhi had never had a T before. He'd never lost his composure in a game before. And if you go back and watch the tape, he was guarding a big man, they were jostling in the paint and the UConn big man was talking sh*t. The bottom line is that the UConn big man started it with Kawhi and Kawhi reacted. That's completely different that JF's T. Kawhi's T was stupid and a real momentum killer. But it was a heat-of-the-moment thing as opposed to Kawhi strutting around the court being a prima donna. Additionally, it happened early in the game and there was time to recover -- which the Aztecs did (with the help of JF, of course.)
* JF's T was very different in a few respects. JF wasn't battling a guy down low where things can get nasty and below the belt. He was just strutting around the court showing off during a time out. He took Kemba's bait hook-line-and-sinker. It was an exponentially more boneheaded offense than Kawhi's. I mean Kemba really worked JF. Heck, if I were JF I would still wake up every morning with a pang of embarrassment. Additionally, JF's T happened late in the game. It was a momentum killer for sure. Unfortunately, the Aztecs didn't have time to recover. The plane went into a stall, they were at a low altitude, the margin of error just wasn't there, and they ended up as a crater in the cornfield.
* Finally, it doesn't matter how fabulously great you are on the field of battle if you are a ticking-time-bomb of a head case and everyone -- teammates, coaches, fans, refs -- are just waiting for the tripwire to go off. Just take a look at Phillip Rivers recent travails if you don't believe me. Do you think anyone associated with the NFL cares if Rivers has completed an astonishing 42 out of 46 passes? H*ll no. They only care that he threw three absolutely brain-fart picks in the fourth quarter of consecutive games that killed any chance his team had to win. Sports is the most Darwinian of endeavors. It sometimes sucks, but that's the way it is. Just like Rivers doesn't get to walk around the locker room and yak in press conferences about how he's torching the league with an 86% completion rate, JF doesn't get to thump his chest about how he powned Kemba for 5 or 6 minutes. It doesn't matter. He didn't close the deal. W's matter. After a certain age, there are no trophies and orange slices for everyone who tries hard.
* As a final, final comment on the matter -- the fans on this board and in the stands generally love JF -- even though he has a giant zit on the middle of his forehead that needs to be discussed and addressed. Doesn't mean we don't think he's a fabulous player. He is. Oddly, you have a really weird ability to turn people against JF instead of backing him. Your effusive praise has a counterintuitive effect. You may want to consider your approach. Or not.
'Nuff said.

Key point in your entire paragraph, 'he didn't close the deal'. He would have closed the deal if he had still been in the game. Kemba wasn't going to all of a sudden score 10 consecutive points on Jamaal like he did when Jamaal went out of the game. Jamaal had Kemba's number.

I actually like BBA more than most posters on this forum.
Ever since he stopped making 3 or 4 threads a week about Jamaal I've seen his true quality.

Danloc: " The ensuing events have been beaten to death, but I do know that his technical foul had much more importance to the outcome and end result of the game than Kawhi's." " False. Both were worth 2 free throws." Please read the second part of the sentence...." had much more importance to the outcome and end result of the game...." Yup, both were worth free throws as well as possession and that's huge, but I still think Jamaal's mistake was a more costly one. BBA, saying that Jamaal playing only 6 minutes doesn't make a difference in that game is just flat out wrong. He could have played 1 minute and been a game changer (see: Ben Wardrop and fouling out in record time....).

End of story.

Repeating yourself without explaining anything doesn't change that. If anything, Kawhi's was more costly because it was his 3rd foul.

How about we lost to UCONN because they outplayed us the last few minutes of the game?
Blaming players for losses is so petty stupid. If the team and coaches don't do it then what right do we have to?
PS. I understand that the people bringing up Kawhi are only doing it at Jamaal's defense, saying if you are going to blame one you have to blame both.. thus they should come to the conclusion that you can't blame either.

I agree 100%. If you blame Jamaal then you have to blame Kawhi, then you have to blame Fisher for throwing such a volitile, inexperienced freshman into such an important game, then you have to blame Tapley for getting torched and not being able to hit a shot. Then you have to blame Kawhi for not hitting that 3 that would have iced it for us. Then you have to blame the refs for calling both of those questionable techs. The blame game never ends.

My disagreement is with Stevens. He has come a long, long way. I love his athleticism and he's learned the position pretty well.
With playing a standard 2 bigs rotation, expect Stevens to get better an better. Remember last year when he got stuck on the wrong side of the basket for boards? Remember him getting stuck under the basket for put backs. He seems to have learned how to better position himself.
I thought Polee played better against SD Christian. He's going to be big for us down the stretch.
It's too early to judge this team top to bottom. The one thing I've noticed vs last years team is that they don't play well together yet. I've not seen a solid rotation from Fisher, seems like he's still trying to figure out who to play where.
100% agree about the carrier game. We don't need it, hope not to see it in 2013.

Polee may deleope but I don't think he'll earn enough minutes to crack the top 8...or 9 when Johnson returns. Fisher trims his rotation when conference starts. Polee and LBF seem to be the 10th and 11th guys respectively.
