Brandon Huffman @brandonhuffman Just watched some film on new San Diego State commit Azeem Victor and the Aztecs got an absolute steal in the Pomona (Calif.) linebacker... Brandon Huffman @brandonhuffman Aztecs corners coach/rcrtg coordinator Tony White again is showing why he's one of the best recruiters in the Mountain West. Found a gem... Happy, Gonzo? No its great praise, but he still has the sleeper/steal badge on him. It is great to have a few of these a class, but we need a few guys that we don't have to hope and pray pan out. He has good size and hopefully he has good speed. A lot of our commits have the same steal designation too. There are some pretty good recruiters in the Big East too. I will say that things like that do make me happy. You always like when your commits get praise like that. But as I stated before, we lost on the Latu's, so he was the backup plan. We seem to get a lot of backup plans.

Sure things are so rare whenit coms to recruits. You're dealing with 17-18 year olds. The Top guys will go to the top programs (SC, Bama, LSU). The rest of the schools have to piece together guys that match the style of play as well as keeping up grades.

Yes, but their are guys who are expected to be good and guys who are more of a sure thing than others. I am not talking only 4 or 5 star guys. You can be a 3 star who is highly touted with multiple high major offers. Or a guy like Ezell Ruffin was expected to make early impact. Had he done what he needed to off the field, he would have made an impact as a true frosh, he was expected to. Escobar and McFadden were not "supposed" to have an early impact, but they did. Again, it is great when this type of thing happens, but we cannot just hope our sleepers pan out.

How was he anymore expected than Mcfadden?

Was wondering what the relationship is between the number of two stars/sleepers we've had and the fact we've never finished higher than tied for third place in the MW, and that was with Hillman, Lindley, Burris and Long on the team.

He was a guy who blew up his senior year and was expected to come in and compete and make an impact. He was the heir apparent to Brown and Sampson. Quotes from various Rivals.com articles: "SDSU's coaches consider him a playmaker that can play as a true freshman. They were struck by plays of him not only on his highlight film but also on game film." "But there are numerous youngsters, such as Ezell Ruffin and Osmond Nicholas, who will get a chance during the spring." "San Diego State's inexperience at wide receiver could allow Ezell Ruffin to have a featured role this fall. Ruffin, a 6-foot-1 redshirt freshman from Long Beach, Calif., made enough of an impression this spring to crack the depth chart as a second-team receiver. His speed could allow him to emerge as the big-play threat the Aztecs need now that Sampson and Brown are gone. "

The same kind of things are being said about the two and three star guys we're getting now, you're just choosing not to see it. Our overall roster is better though, so there won't be as many of those guys coming in and getting playing time right away anyway.

If he was in the NFL he'd get fined 50k for the hit he put on the QB in that first play.

Escobar and McFadden were not "supposed to" or "expected to" come in and compete right away. This was an example of someone who was, regardless of stars. Those quotes came from coaches and analysts.

My thoughts... Kid definitely passes the eye test. Decent speed for his size. Definitely playing out of position at MLB as he plays a little high and doesn't do a great job shedding blockers. Good motor and intensity though. I see a lot of Vaness Harris in him.

So are you. I can find quotes from coaches and analysts for guys YOU are perceiving to be reaches too. Again, you're just choosing to ignore them. Just admit that you picked a bad example in Ruffin and move on.

You brought up Ruffin as an example of a highly rated recruit and when somebody called you on it you switched the argument to, "Oh well, the coaches were high in him" and when I call you in that you throw a tantrum. Quit being such a *****. PS. Ruffin wasn't expected at all to play as a true frosh.

I know these are highlights, but my goodness, this guy swallows these high school kids with his size. Nice pick up! I expect a Pac 12 offer by next week. ;D
