Did you see/hear him say it? Just interested in the tone and context of that quote.

Good on Rocky for taking some responsibility. We never heard any such personal accountability out of Craft of the Chuckster.

Coaches being accountable seems to be the current thing. I wonder what he is doing wrong? He mentioned in the UT that the defensive schemes were too complicated for the personnel. And we know special teams have been a disaster. Sort of disheartening to hear he is doing a lousy job of coaching after all these years in the business.

Rocky is a player's coach. He takes the heat and does not point fingers. He has already taken heat for kickers that could not kick. Note that as soon as they did better in practice, he started using them.
The defensive line can not put pressure on the QB. The defensive problems start there. For 2 years, Brady was responsible for the DL. I can not remember the player's name, but he was a 4 star everyone was excited about, that decommitted from us and went with Brady. Rocky had this year for fix it. Will the players he recruited this year pan out? We shall see over the next couple of years.
Why does Brady get a pass for the DL he recruited and Rocky take the blame?
However, I do blame Rocky for the increase in penalties. Some is inexperienced players, but he has to create discipline.

As I said on another thread, you're thinking of Jalil and he didn't go with Brady. Instead he decommited to Cal.

Hang in there, Rocky. The season can be salvaged. Let's get in a bowl game.

I feel like his defensive gameplan has been too predictable with not enough in-game variations.
I'm only watching the game on TV one time and don't have the benefit of watching game film and I know we have a lot of young players, but I thought against Fresno St., our gameplan was obvious from the start and we never really adjusted.
Sure we got a bunch of turnovers at the start but we also gave up a bunch of huge plays.
We basically tried to mask a blitz, and then Carr would do a hard count, and we would show blitz from a linebacker or someone in the secondary, and then Fresno would adjust to who is picking up the blitz, and then we wouldn't change anything, because our defense doesn't have the freedom to do that, and no one on the sideline can apparently communicate mid-play which is reasonable I suppose. So then we send 5 or 6 and are left exposed in the secondary. But we basically tried to bring people off the edge and rely on man-to man. But we didn't run any stunts really or show someone blitz and have a delayed blitz with someone else.. it was just kinda predictable after Carr's obvious hard count every play. We obviously miss players like Burris and Long and others. I know complex schemes are tough to instill with young players, but we have to get more creative. If we can't generate pressure with 4 lineman (we can't) why keep throwing the same thing at them every time. We had the whole offseason for players to learn zone blitzing schemes, stunting and play-change variations. If all we know how to do is rush 4, or send 5 or 6 and then we make it obvious when we do and we just hope we can play man to man, they we are screwed the rest of the season.
If our players can't learn a defensive playbook that has more than 6 plays, maybe they aren't cut out for it, which is not a good sign for the future.

Brady doesn't neccessarily deserve a pass, but he's not here anymore, hasn't been for two years, and the buck has to stop somewhere else. Sucks, but it is what it is. Lack of depth doesn't surprise me. Look at what happened to Ball State the year after Brady's big season, after he bolted for SDSU.

Pretty much threw Schmidt under the bus with the offensive line problems. Is that really a surprise when you hire a GA with no experience to coach your OL?

Piped in music to entertain Chuck while he played catch with some grad assistants must have been what was in his mind. Barry Manilow, wasn't it?

Lewis avoided the bus. Schmidt and McGarry went unnamed, but when you point out how bad your O-line and ST were and tell the media they weren't coached up properly... Nice for Rocky to take some responsibility, but "talk is cheap".

Just curious but who's been the impact DL recruits the last couple of years? The O side has had their share and we spend time talking about them -the o-line guys, the RBs, the QBs. But who do we talk about on the D side? And with what degree of confidence?

Our opponents' cumulative passing stats against us over the last three games:
91-138 for 1260 yards. That's a 65% completion rate with a 9 yard average.
Over those three games we have with 3 pics and 5 total sacks (4 of which came against a 1AA team).

It is tough when a 245 pound true freshman is your 2nd best defensive tackle. We need serious JUCO help on the DL, no other way to make up for the huge swing and miss the past few years in DL recruiting.

I wonder how the defense would be doing if teaching them the 3-3-5, preparing them for the opponent, and calling the plays were his only job. It sounds as if there's not enough time to do all of that in addition to media relations, recruiting, marketing, babysitting kickers, etc.
