As I said on another thread, you're thinking of Jalil and he didn't go with Brady. Instead he decommited to Cal. Thanks. Missed your reply. How is he doing at Cal? He's currently backing up two seniors & a junior on the Cal d-line. He'll be a starter next season.

It seems like Rocky should have recruited at least one beefy JC defensive lineman in last year's class. He must have thought he had enough talent on the line, which has proven to be a mistake. Moa and Kottman will probably be fine down the road, but right now our defensive lines are too small and not quick enough to make up for the size difference.

Nobody posted it but here's the link to the video of the presser- youtu.be/V-2VI9cpwNYIt starts with his "better job of coaching" comment. This was the first presser of his I've listened to. Truthfully, I've tuned out football the last two seasons so I don't have much experience listening to him speak but he certainly comes across a bit combative and annoyed at the nature of the questions. Then again, it could be the quality of the reporters asking questions. Was it just the Daily Aztec there asking questions?

He doesn't have the personnel to run a proper defense, and he doesn't want to admit it. Those calling the defense a "gimmick" are absolutely correct. It's being employed because the Aztecs don't have what it takes to run anything else. But they're woefully undermanned and under talented at the most important positions. If they don't have a pass rush, then they need pass defenders. They don't have either. It's 11 guys running around - with two or three of them actually winning on every play. The rest are getting beaten soundly on every down. This is NOT intended to put these guys down. They are playing the best they can. But getting beaten even 50% of the downs is going to make it difficult for the team to win.
The defense has had some good series, and some important take-aways. But being continuously beaten down after down after down has to wear on anyone - even the best. These guys need some support from staff, and they're not getting it right now.
Prepare the game plan to the players' talents and quit asking them live up to some pipedreamer's gimmicky defensive scheme. It's clearly not working. And it's going to have a negative impact on some good players.

Good on Rocky for taking some responsibility. We never heard any such personal accountability out of Craft of the Chuckster. Craft didn't inherit a bowl team. Bad comparison.

Typically teams that run this defense are small, but really quick. We know we are small, but do we know we are really quick? If we are not quick, the kids are put into one hell of a spot! Coach needs to use the talent the best way to maximize each kids strength. If you are not recruiting the talent you need to succeed, then something has to give. Right now, I could forsee the kids spirit getting broken if they are expected to be faster than they actually are.

Craft didn't inherit a bowl team. Bad comparison. He also never made a bowl game, so yeah bad comparison. Long inherited a bowl team. Craft started from the ground up. Long was already a coach on this team. You're right, REALLY bad comparison.

I would say that from what I have seen that Rocky is doing a terrible job of coaching.
That said, SDSU is a very tough place to come in and win for a football coach. The program and fans have been beaten down for so long that there is very little enthusiasm, the stadium is a bad fit for a college program and the team is mediocre at best and trending downward again after some hope the past few years.
Rocky needs to coach AND recruit a lot better or he needs to go. It is that simple.

It's true that he didn't. However, I can't remember him even once admitting that he made some mistakes. And he made a number of them.
