To all negative posters...

First and only time I am going to post on here.
I'm an Aztec who ACTUALLY PLAYED at SDSU years ago.
And coming from my perspective having wasted my time checking out this board a few times over the past few weeks I'm in shock and appalled at what I see from "Aztec supporters" on here.

Here's a great idea since you all are such harsh critics of the program and the athletic department. There should be a requirement that you each reveal the amount of you contribute and donate to Aztec athletics. Because the way many of you speak with such judgment on this board I would hope that could only come from a significant investment you have made in Sdsu athletics.

Another idea for all the armchair coaches that seem to this they have all the answers. Please give us all a reason for why you are qualified to give such an amazing evaluation of these coaches and players that dedicate endless hours towards playing and coaching a game they love. So I would like to see the years any of you have been associated (playing on the field, not sitting the bench) with organized football, past your JV high school teams or when you are the assistant secondary coach of a freshman football team.

In conclusion if you want to be so critical of the athletics department, the football program, the basketball program, baseball, or anything else start being a part of the solution rather than generating all these problems. If you really wanna see SDSU rise to be an athletic power open up your checkbooks or positively support the teams on the Mesa. And don't criticize Long, Sterk, Fisher, Gwynn or anyone else on a staff at SDSU because there is no way anyone on this board has more experience in each field as these great men do. Lastly stop calling 18-21 year old kids out for what they do on the field. Go and try to last one day doing what they do juggling intense workouts, film study, practice, and schoolwork. They aren't professionals or getting paid ungodly amounts of money so you have no right to demean a young man for how he performs on the field.

Thanks for your input and thanks in particular for your contribution to the team.

I played hundreds of competitive baseball games. Never at the college level but Little League, Babe Ruth League, tournament ball, HS, adult softball in half a dozen leagues of one sort or another for 25 years. I therefore consider myself reasonably qualified to opine on Aztecs baseball and our team is fundamentally inept in the one game in which fundamentals means more than in any other. But I don't want to bitch about that sport, it's just not important enough and Tony's a great guy.

I never played any tackle football with pads but my son did and I've watched thousands of games. Nevertheless, I'll readily admit guys like you know a lot more than I do about the game. So if you want to tell those of us who know considerably less where we're wrong, I heartily encourage you to do so. And BTW, I know for a fact there is at least one other former player who was a several year starter who posts here on a fairly regular basis. He's not exactly elated with how the team has been playing.

Finally, I've donated four figures to the athletics department for about a decade now and have been a football season ticket holder longer than that. I've also spent way too much time on this board agonizing over something dumb like how my alma mater (from which I hold two degrees) does in football. Anyway, from that I'll tell you the absolute worst thing SDSU could do is tell angry fans to stick it where the sun don't shine. That has never been more true than now with the potential millions of dollars in prospective revenue which could come to the university from having a high-quality football program. Tell them to STFU and maybe they get upset enough to stop buying tickets and writing checks. That would not be good. Not good at all.

Couldn't agree more. However, please note that not everyone on this board is incessantly negative. Some of us support the program the right way and understand this is SDSU and Rome wasn't built in a day. However, unfortunately, for the most part the inmates do run this asylum.

For what it is worth, I a high school varsity starter in Football (all Sacramento city DB/QB), Basketball and Baseball both Junior and Senior year. Was recruited to play D III football and baseball, but didn't play because I didn't want to make that time commitment. So I understand how hard these kids and coaches work. Could be why I'm one of the more positive posters on this board. I generally save my negativity to criticizing the apathetic and angry San Diego fan base.

Definitely, personal attacks on the young men should never happen.
Even getting nasty/personal on Rocky is pretty bad.

Honest overall opinion and criticism is not out of the question, as we are fans and are passionate,
but unless it is done in a way that still shows support,
it only makes you and the whole of the Aztecs fanbase look very very bad.

Keep your spirits high, never bow a knee buddies.
Keep supporting the team.

Why should the players have to play for a coach that is 1-8 against bowl teams at SDSU and 11-44 at UNM? I support the players most because I want them to have a coach that can beat a team with a pulse.

Thank god you came here to say this. A little perspective always helps. Criticism is always gonna be there, especially for the coaching staff. But it should be tamped down to appropriate levels. The people who are calling for Rockys head like to think they are different from the fire fisher people from just a few years ago. But they are one and the same. Theyll claim that fisher had proved himself michigan and rocky was just average at new Mexico. Ummmm it was effing michigan it recruits itself, rocky had $hit to work with at New Mexico. Not a valid comparison for justifying what so many of the chicken littles use to validate their pathetic rants. To be fair, I'm not happy with the product right now, however Continual coaching turnover is not healthy for a program. What's sad is that most of you know this but are just blinded by anger right now and refuse to think rationally. What's funny is we spent all offseason talking about the problems that will arise from our weakness on the defensive line and when it finally manifests itself in a game you guys are all bug eyed and surprised like "omfg how the eff is this happening mmmrrraaaaaaggggghhhh!!!". Grow up people, you sound like a bunch of whiny children.

Can't wait for the "I guess my expectations are just higher than yours" responses from the dorks who think we are something that we are not yet.

I appreciate the fact that the OP played for SDSU, but that doesn't automatically make him and everything he says right. A lot of the language I'm reading in that post is typical athlete response to criticism, and while I can't imagine how tiresome it must be to read posts about how so and so screwed up because he holds the ball wrong or ran the wrong route, it's equally lame to be told as a fan that you can't be critical of outcomes because you don't understand. If it weren't for fans, collegiate athletes wouldn't have the opportunity to chase dreams or play a sport into your adult years with any meaning beyond duffing around the softball fields around the county. The fact that most of us are intensely jealous of these athletes doesn't mean they should be beyond criticism for not winning. I think it's ridiculous to criticize the technical aspects of anything if you're not experienced enough to know what you're talking about--but you don't have to be an mechanical or electrical engineer experienced in auto design and manufacturing to know that a Ford Pinto is poor-functioning. In other words, I might not know how to throw a football further than 30 yards, or dunk a basketball, but I don't have to know that to see that when the team I support loses they did something wrong.

I am only class of '09 but I have contributed as much as I could afford, in addition to purchasing 5 season tickets for basketball since I graduated. Frankly, I'm not sure how relevant that really is to my point, but I state it to show that I'm in no way a troll or unattached to my alma mater.

The fact of the matter is that the fans on here are the ones who do support the program, even if it is by criticism. With the exception of a few particularly negative posters who can get nasty about people rather than just disgruntled by the performance of the team from a win-loss perspective, very little on here is all that "out of bounds." It might be very reactive, but that's generally indicative of people caring.

There's a saying that the opposite of love isn't hate, it's apathy. Almost everyone on here loves SDSU and its various athletic programs. I think everyone needs to keep that in mind more often when they're critical of the way individuals show it.

You are correct getreal. In this tough guy internet days fans think they have the right to say anything. They do have that right on the interent but some common sense has to come into play. We should not be calling out players on Aztec boards. It is wrong to do. It is counter productive. We are not doing our own players and team any favors by raking players over the coal in public.

Opinions are like assholes everyone has one, as it should be. I have been a supporter, member of AAF, season ticket holder in BB and FB for decades. And while you did play and support the program, you played for someone else in a different era with different AD and coach? And you did not inform us as to how much contact you have with the present staff. As such, your opinion is appreciated as it should be. But considering the moribund condition the program has been these last few decades you have to admit that the AD's and the coaches have to take most of the blame. And to sit idly by and watch it slip back after 2 years of success would be a mistake. You played and if can honestly think/say that the team has improved or is improving then it will be taken as your opinion. I for one, after seeing regime after regime fail especially the Chuck Long years continually get worse and worse will not ever stop yelling from the mountain top if I feel I need to. This is the reason and the place for this forum. I never felt that Rocky Long was a good choice for the HC job. DC maybe but, circumstances dictated so and he has the job. I will support the team and the kids but, don't have to like the results and will not be happy until we can sustain the FB like we have with the BB program.

Agree with comments. However, there is nothing wrong with
constructive criticism!

Everbody wants Aztecs football program to win and become a
major player.

However, with the decision to move Aztecs football program to
the Big East for REVENUE/MONEY, TV exposure and possibility
to no longer play in the flower bowl each year raises expectations
to a high level.

Again, I am cognizant that Aztecs may not get the 5 star recruits
and have their own college football stadium, but the PLAYERS who
are playing and Coaches must find a way to get the job done.

Its that simple. Just win baby!

This is a fan message board. The athletes may not get paid but the institutions make millions off of College sports, and fans pay a pretty penny to attend live College events. If a fan wants to comment on their personal opinion, then so be it. College is a major step up from high school in terms of media/fan exposure. Coaches and College athletes understand that harsh criticism is part of the game. With that being said, those posters who insist on being negative, are more of a negative reflection on themselves than they are anything else. I doubt coaches and players are logging on to these sites to guage fan opinions on their performance.

I feel bad for the players, not the coaches. Not sure why it is anyones business if I or anyone else donates to SDSU but I do, I'm not exactly wealthy so not too much. Considering my basketball posts I would hardly call myself a negative poster, I just am not afraid to post what I see. The program has many issues, starting with Rocky Long and the AD.
