Gotta hope you're right. If CS-San Jose is a hard game it's gonna be ugly here. Just for the record, it is officially San Jose State University. They are the oldest CSU school. AzWm

We will be fine and we'll handle San Jose State. Don't overreact over one game. While disappointed with the defense's performance, the outcome was never in doubt. Uh, we played an FCS school. And not one of the caliber of Cal Poly or North Dakota STATE. Maybe I am overreacting, but our defense was atrocious, there's just no getting around it. Actually, both North Dakota schools have enviable records. ND St has had only about 3 losing seasons since the '60s, but ND State hasn't been chopped liver, either. They have 21 winning seasons out of the past 22, with 8 of those seasons winning 10 or more games (14 one year). States like N. Dakota will never have schools in the FBS, but they have great fans who help those schools do really well at their level. Compare that with, for instance, Sac State. CSU-Sac must compete with so many other CA schools, especially those in the FCS. AzWm

I am sure Rocky Long will say that SJSU is the best team ever, we have no chance etc...like he did before this game and the bowl game. Problem is, I think that some of the Aztec kids believe it.

Spartan QB had good numbers against Rams. That does not bode well for us as our DBs got burnt yesterday. I hope that game was an abberation. Otherwise our next game will be high scoring and the last team to score will win.

This SJSU-SDSU game has the potential to be a real shoot-out. Both teams have put up multiple 40 point games in the first few weeks of play, so they seem to be clicking on all cylinders there.
Coach Mac is in his 3rd year at SJSU and the Spartans are finally starting to see tangible on-the-field results. The depth is better than I can remember and we have some pretty good individual players at key positions: QB David Fales, WR's Noel Grigsby, Jabari Carr and Chandler Jones, TE Ryan Otten, DL Travis Raciti and Travis Johnson, RB Deleon Eskridge... a nice list of some quality players you may not have heard of yet.
Last year, at 5-7, SJSU won three games by a FG or less... but similarly lost the same number of games, also by a FG or less. Maybe a wash there, but, except for the Stanford 57-3 drubbing, the team played all games pretty close.
Whether the early season success this year has been against marginal competition or not (UC-Davis and Colorado State aren't world-beaters by any stretch), the team seems confident. And although I think it's folly to compare SJSU's "success" in a close, 3-point loss to Stanford earlier this year (i.e., to the Cardinal beating No. 2 USC yesterday), the fact remains that the game stats bear out that the Spartans had a very real chance to win that particular game.
I know you guys definitely want to avenge the last two losses to SJSU (2006, 2008) under Chuck Long's "reign of error," but I think SJSU will nonetheless be a stiff test for the Aztecs. That's not just the homer in me speaking either.
I'm glass both teams show up with winning records and the promise of a pretty good season for whomever comes out on top. At 3-1, the winner will be looking pretty good for projecting to a Bowl game not so far down the road...

This game can go either way. I'm leaning toward an "L" because of our weak defense. The last time that SDSU played them, I thought we were going to kill them. Uhem.... they killed us. James Jone was a one man wrecking crew. Nice. Be the first to go on record predicting an L.

Why go negative? I'm leaning to a W because the Spartans won't be able to stop us. We're going to go up and down the field and score. Rocky will fix what needs to be fixed and we'll play like we did for most of the Washington game. Go Aztecs!

This, but it won't be easy. We'll pressure Fales more than we could Hendrickson and I think we've established that our run defense is pretty solid. I watched a lot of the Stanford-SJSU game, and the Cardinal was an absolute first-game, post-Luck mess. They were nowhere near the level of the team that killed the Dukies and stuffed U$C. It will be a competitive game, but we are the better team. Why go negative? I'm leaning to a W because the Spartans won't be able to stop us. We're going to go up and down the field and score. Rocky will fix what needs to be fixed and we'll play like we did for most of the Washington game. Go Aztecs!

Football is all about in-season adjustments. Rocky will be all over the defensive team in the film room and on the practice field. I trust this game was an aberration. The PA guy will get a spanking from Rocky too.

Someone gave SJSU a #25 vote for this week in the coaches poll. That's one more vote than we have.

Our running game has been good, but I thought we would be getting a few more yards through the air than we have been.

Eskridge went to Minnesota, not Wisconsin. Big difference.

Their play might, at some point, convince Aztec players that the other teams are better but Rocky Long will not. Stupid penalties were devastating yesterday. Rocky Long did not commit those penalties. Penalties cost the Aztecs two or three scores. When they play like that lots of teams will be better.

This thread (even and especially its very title) is sickening. There is absolutely no reason we shouldn't be a heavy favorite AND cover the number. Some of us have low expectations. I mean come on. San Jose State? I like your confidence, if not your sense of reality. I'd be shocked if SDSU was favored by more than 5 points in this game, which means the teams really aren't that far apart. We'll see soon enough...

San Jose State is improved, but you can't be losing to San Jose State and be taken seriously as a football program.
SDSU needs to find a way because Boise St, Fresno and Nevada are all probable losses.

We should beat them. However, if the defense played like last night, it will be a lost. SJSU had 2 years to rebuild. This is year 4 of SDSU's rebuild.

This thread (even and especially its very title) is sickening. There is absolutely no reason we shouldn't be a heavy favorite AND cover the number. Some of us have low expectations. I mean come on. San Jose State? The problem is that loser Chuck Long is still haunting the fans psyche from which they still haven't completely recovered from. He was the dummest hire that I've ever seen. Hoke was on the verge of erasing that loss of confidence before he left. Last year we had a couple of ugly wins and losses and that put Rocky on questionable status, regardless of won loss record. It's funny, in our fans' minds everybody has gotten "better" this year, except our Aztecs. True or not, this season is pivotal as we head into the nBE. It'll determine whether Rocky is continuing where Hoke left off, or it's the beginning of a drop off. Excuses not accepted.
