Hated it. Hopefully the message was received. Please stop trying to use the PA to pump up fans. Just call the game. Please and thank you.

I cringed every time I heard that "Fear the Spear" thing. Just how embarrassing is it to have folks from North Dakota hearing that and then laughing at us?

It's lame. It's gay. It's stupid. And it DOESN'T work since it seemed to just inspire the opposing team! So not only is it embarrassing for being small time, but it is embarrassing because the opposing team converted every third down and long effort. By the end of the game I was the one Fearing the Spear. And I thought the lame "1st down" chant was bad. Oh yeah, and I don't like the lame T-shirt either! LOL.

They stopped doing it in the fourth quarter. I hope that was the end of it.

First of all the design of the spear that they are using is lame. It should be an aggressive design. This is competition not Fine Arts. The spear needs flames and blood. Secondly, the first time I heard it over the PA it sounded like Fear the Steer! moooooooooooo

FEAR - THE BEEEEEER!!!!
I don't think there was enough beer in the entire stadium to make that catchphrase anything but annoying and embarrassing.
And that dramatic pause (Fear.... The SPEAR!!) that the PA announcer started using to try and make it work only made it more embarrassing. I know he was told to say the catch phrase, so I actually felt bad for the guy. He sounded like an idiot repeatedly saying, "Fear the spear," when it was clear that it sounded like a joke.

It will be my ring tone, but not this week as my recording of the game was pixel-ated beyond belief.

It would sound great if they really feared the spear. They converted on almost all 3rd down. That made the phrase annoying.

SDSU football games at the cavernous Q are not exactly a scintillating college football experience. But it is what it is, but at the very least stop intentionally annoying the fans with lame babble over the PA.

So it wasn't just me. About the third or fourth time I remember thinking that the chant was really corny and annoying. Also, how many times is Leitner going to get the score wrong and then have to correct himself.

Really? THIS is what you guys choose to get riled up about? After all the lame things that the athletic department's marketing guys have implemented and tried to implement (including lame stuff on the PA, both recorded and live by the announcer) most Aztec fans have a short fuse and little patience for this kind of bush league stuff. Bush league like 25k for the second home game?

the Speer goodie was a joke. Don't mind the ....FIRST down. At least it suggests success. Years past on third down and long we had a "rage meter" and the more you yelled the higher the meter went. That too, was cheering for success... did not always work but you were encouraging our boys to preform well. The Speer thing sound like you want our boys to fear the other team!
Get rid of it please. Isn't marketing supposed to pilot things like this before hand ....the show knows!

There is no doubt that the Aztec fan base is lame. Too cold, too hot, too wet, trick or treat, and the fans stay away. This is something that can be changed, however.

I didn't see anything wrong with the Fear The Spear. Fans have been bitching about marketing doing nothing for years. Now marketing tries something and they bitch about that too?

But yu can't fault marketing for trying something new.

Marketing is about getting people in the stadium, not irritating them once they're there. It didn't irritate me, our defensive effort did. What do I know though, I pay attention to silly stuff like what's actually going on on the field...
