But WE WON, and that's all that matters which is more than I can say for Brady Hoke's team AND usc. Unless I missed something, Michigan won 63-13. Yes, a win is better than a loss, but are you really trying to make a comparison between playing North Dakota at home and a road game at Stanford?

How many bowl games did the "darkside" win? You seriously think that this d is comparable to the Dark Side? It was not the d's fault that we did not win any bowl games back then. They had one really good statistical year when we had the weakest schedule in in the last 30 years the next three years they were not so hot in fact over four years they averaged about 60 in total defense.

You seriously think that this d is comparable to the Dark Side? Isn't it reasonable that "The best D in modern Aztec history" would have at least won a bowl game or been ranked in the top 25? Remember the game is played on both sides of the ball... there's a reason no one mentions the offense during those years.

But a defense as good to merit the name "THE DARKSIDE" would have surely at least lead the team to at least 6 wins, right? Maybe we should just change it to "that one year Kirk Morrison was a badass"

They had one really good statistical year when we had the weakest schedule in in the last 30 years the next three years they were not so hot in fact over four years they averaged about 60 in total defense. From our website after the loss to Michigan at the Big House in 2004: "San Diego State's "Dark Side" defense, which ranked eighth nationally a season ago, kept the Aztecs in the game, but Garrett Palmer could not convert 46- and 49-yard field goal attempts in the second half." "It's the second straight year the Aztecs played tough against a Big Ten powerhouse. Last year, San Diego State lost 16-13 to then-No. 2 Ohio State at Ohio Stadium. It was the first meeting between Michigan and San Diego State, and the more than 109,000 in attendance was the most ever to see the Aztecs play." In 2003, we played at Ohio State, UCLA, and Utah. We had BYU at our place. That was our weakest schedule in 30 years? Just saying that this d and the Dark Side d are not close based upon what I have seen with my own eyes.

In that game our QB threw an INT which was returned 100 yards for a TD... tell me how the D should have stopped that play.

I stand corrected on Michigan (homer moment) and no, no comparison at all but all that really matters now is the W's and L's. We have two and that is something to build on, especially since I just heard how pissed coach Long was about the defensive performance. Oh yeah, I wanna see how they perform next week.

Does this mean people will finally stop making the ridiculous comparisons to the dark side defense? Only saw part of the game but with that many long ND drives I can't imagine the SDSU defense was anything but bad. McFadden was lights out as usual. Other than him, I didn't notice anybody on our D who was worth a damn. If our D plays like that against SJSU, we'll lose by at least two TDs.

Two of the six wins were against FCS schools and only one can count toward bowl eligibility.

You are quite right in that the defense didn't show up. SGF, this was basically a scrimmage. If I of all people am willing to give this ten more weeks, surely you can too. We don't even need ten. If the defense plays like this next week, it will be time to start warming up the Rocky's seat.

I'm with James.
Frankly, I'm amazed at how little vitriol there is here. My guess is almost nobody posting was actually there and Teddy Broadcast was so bored he talked about the Padres half the time so most folks don't know what a dumpster fire the defense was. Of SDSU defenses that actually tried rather than packing it in at halftime like so often happened when we were coached by UpChuck, I honestly think this was one of the worst performances I've ever seen from my alma mater. Virtually no pass rush whatsoever and a secondary that would have had difficulty covering me. (Well, maybe not. I'm old and I downed a lot of beer so maybe they could have covered me.)
The surprising thing to me is I'm really not even pissed. What I am is even a lot more skeptical of Rocky's continuing to be the DC than I was when the season started. Maybe John is correct we treated it like a practice game. Considering the modest effort I observed, maybe he's right. I certainly hope so or we aren't going to qualify for a bowl game this year.

Well, JYP, I don't think we have any choice but to suck it up and deal with it. We have NO other coaches on the team who could replace Rocky and do any better. We are stuck.

DEFENSIVE END (DE) 97 Dontrell Onuoha, 6-2, 265, So* 99 Jon Sanchez, 6-2, 265, Fr.-RS DEFENSIVE TACKLE (DT) 98 Sam Meredith, 6-4, 275, So.* 94 Robert Craighead, 6-3, 265, Fr.-RS 92 Dan Kottman, 6-1, 245, Fr.-HS DEFENSIVE END (DE) 59 Jordan Thomas, 6-1, 255, Jr.** 47 Cody Galea, 6-3, 265, So.* All of them except for craighead are three star recruits,so not without talent.. this is from the College Football News 2012 Prerseason aztec report ill have to do lots of cleaning up. cfn.scout.com/2/1189114.html"The team will be far better if … the secondary can hold up and stop a good passing game. Last year the Aztecs were able to beat Washington State despite getting lit up for 368 passing yards and three scores. That was it as far as coming through against teams that could throw. Michigan didn’t throw on the Aztecs because it ran for 320 yards and four scores, but almost everyone else who could complete a forward pass ended up winning." Thsi yeat we have achance because we may out score them, but we will be at the bottom of oass defense again. all sophmores and freshman except Thomas and he did not redesirt. Way too young. nOt enough speed
