It's one of those things that statistically makes sense, but no coach has ever had the balls to completely implement. It would take a true pioneer at the college level...maybe someone with the balls to run a 3-3-5 base defense?

Yeah, I won't get into the details since it's on a paid Rivals article (another solid one BTW) but it's not 100% as of yet.

On-side kick against an offensive powerhouse makes all the sense in the world. "Keep the ball out of the other team's hands" does not work unless you upset the equilibrium. Each team gets the ball every other time. A 'take-away' or an on-side kick does upset that equation.

Let's looks at the other side of things.
Does this say anything about how confident he is with the special teams unit? How about our defense?
Or am I stretching it here?

What it says to me is that he is really high on his oline and runningbacks. It also opens up a world of crap for the defense. he relies oan big play defense anyway. I think its brllant inside the fifty on fourth downs. He can practice it on North Dakota maybe San Jose or even Army. I like the onside kicks if the other team has a Big kick returner why not? I think he will do it just enough to cause a headache for the opponents DC. with two mobile Qbs Muema, Walter,Price or whoever it can be effective. The trick is no offsides or holding etc.

Oregon goes for it ALOT on fourth down. Over the last couple years, the ducks have put together some of the best offenses in the country in terms of stats and quality of players. I'm not assuming you're making a comparison between The Mesa and Eugene, but with all the questions to be answered on offense this year for us, this "theory" makes me uneasy; As it should I guess. Again, I truly hope this isn't due to lack of confidence in our special teams and/or defense.

Anyone who is not a member of ASR should be (its well worth it if you are an Aztec fanatic). It is a great website with tons of SDSU specific information and articles relating to football and basketball.

It might say that we really don't have a "punting game" or more to the point----punter! I think you are right, the punters are suspect. They have 3 in camp, and I have only seen one of the punt and that is Joel Alesi. But if Alesi wins the job, I would be in favor of more fourth down attempts.

It had no underlying point that he departed from since, I assume this was about something Rocky said? That wouldn't have violated the copyright. I think it is fair and ethical if this is a free site to make at least general reference to the public comments from a public official. Otherwise, probably keep inside info over on the asr board. So, what did he generally say? Was it situational? Also, I thought McMorrow was being looked at for punting duties too? Sent from my DROID RAZR using proboards
