The MWC is now at 10 schools, with a very good chance that two of them will play in BCS games in 2010 (BSU & TCU). Now with all the uncertainty in the market, the MWC can send messages they are only interested in going to 12 schools. This puts pressure on KU, KSU, Missouri, Houston, Iowa State, Baylor to run for air cover (to the MWC) or risk being left completely out of a BSC conference (starting in 2013).

I don't think that's the strategy.
Houston: As was the case a year ago, would join the MWC in a heartbeat. Baylor: I haven't seen or heard anything to suggest the MWC wants them and after their whining, who would? Iowa State: Chances of interest from the MWC are 50-50 at best. KU and KSU: The MWC definitely wants them but I predict they end up in the Big East along with ISU.

Unless aTm goes to the big12, then the pac16 grabs Kansas The Hair apparently said they are actively trying to renegotiate, if they could get Kansas/KSU, comcast might be very willing to open the checkbook for a title game and having Kansas bball.

Why do you think KU and KSU will end up in the big East? Several reasons. Geographically, the issue is a wash. Athletically, Big East football doesn't have the dregs of the MWC, of which your favorite school and mine is the worst offender, plus KU and KSU are basketball schools and the Big East the absolute best BB conference. I'll predict, however, that just as TCU was in CUSA for only four years before being added to the MWC, KU and KSU will only be in the Big East for about that long before they join the MWC.

The Basketball thing makes sense. I didn't think about that.

Disagree on KU and K-state going Big East. If this conference realignment continues as people have suggested the Big East will be the next conference to fall. It is already rumored that several of their football schools are on the Big Ten wish list and their hoops conference already has 16 teams. KU & K-state wouldn’t play in that conference until 2012 and the conference could very well already be gutted by then. The Big East is a much less stable conference and their BCS autobid is on very shaky ground. The MWC is a much different story if we can stay intact. The craziest thing about this is that geographically we are in a great position to weather the storm and prosper long term. Think about it…there are currently 4 BCS conferences east of the Mississippi where roughly 60% of the US population resides. On Tuesday, when the major players of the Big 12 leave to form the new Pac-16 there will only be one BCS conference West of the Missippi where 40% of the US population lives. We are also protected geographically from the poaching of the Eastern BCS conferences in survival mode by being bordered by the incredibly stable Big Ten and SEC who will never be interested in any of our schools. If we can keep the MWC intact for the next few weeks I really like our outlook for long term survival. The MWC will never be mentioned in the same breath as the Big Ten, Pac, or SEC but IMO would be included in whatever form the BCS takes when the dust settles and considering the potential alternative I will be doing cartwheels. Why do you think KU and KSU will end up in the big East? Several reasons. Geographically, the issue is a wash. It is the Presidents of the schools making these deals)... I have been on the Kansas, Kansas State, and Iowa State boards every day for the last week. None of those fans want to join the MWC. They don't understand the MWC, they know nothing about the MWC. They all want to get in the Big East right now.

I think the 5 remaining Big XII schools will try and poach teams from lesser conferences and try to remain a conference. For schools in the WAC or Sun Belt, etc, they would gain the BCS money for 2011. Plus, the Big XII's TV deal is in place for 6 years ( does anyone know if the TV deal can opt out because of realignment? ) that pays each member some 10 million a year, so there might be incentive to keep it alive.

No AQ conference has any interest in anybody from the WAC or the SBC. For that matter, now that Boise has been added, even the Mountain West has no interest in anybody from the WAC or the SBC.

The Big 12 loses their BCS autobid and NCAA tourney autobid if the Big 12 south vacates. Thats not opinion, that is fact. I think the 5 remaining Big XII schools will try and poach teams from lesser conferences and try to remain a conference. I think the Boise State move was a good one for several reasons, one it provides a strong conference in both Football and Basketball (i.e. we were already stong in BBall and BSU has no effect) and two, it protects us in Football if TCU or Utah were to leave - which may still happen depending on what the rest of the Big 12 (i.e. now Big 10, not too be confused with The Big 10, which actually had 11 teams and now has 12).
The latest I read is that 4 Big 12 teams (Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, OSU) may join Colorado in the Pac 10 and therefore they (the Pac 10) may still scoop up Utah to make it an even 16 teams.

I've always thought Fresno State would make a good rivalry and conference foe

I say add Fresno St, Houston, plus Kansas and Kansas State. Fresno State would be a nice logical instate rival for the Aztecs, plus TCU would have their own instate rival in Houston. Kansas and Kansas State would vault us into top 3 powerhouse conference status.
