Looks like it's the piece that's been online for a few days... But still, pub is pub.
Winning DOES solve everything.

Finally some guys that just love basketball telling the truth. If Aztecs lose 2-3 games the whole season they would be dissapointed if SDSU is not a 3 seed

Both Gottlieb and Lunardi gave us a lot of respect in some live interviews and discussion. Lunardi has us tabbed as a 2-seed in the west...

According to Doug Gottlieb, DJ Gay was an academic case and would have "struggled to qualify at say a UCLA, or even a USC." He claims San Diego State was easier to get into.
Setting aside the slap at SDSU's academic entrance requirements, I don't recall there EVER being any question as to DJ's academic standing. I don't recall ANY question regarding whether or not he would qualify. Brandon Heath, sure, he was academic risk that came through with flying colors.
It would be nice if they would get their facts straight.

By the way: Vote in the SportsNation poll:
"Would an undefeated San Diego State team deserve a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament?"
Currently on the front page.

ESPN's Poll on an undefeated Aztecs team deserving a #1 seed: 64% Yes 36% No Surprisingly, a higher percentage of people in Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming believe so than in California. ;D espn.go.com/The truth is the Aztecs will deserve a #1 seed even with 2 or 3 losses but the truth is not necessarily reality when it comes to college basketball rankings.

I seem to remember he was committed to UCI, they have pretty strong requirements yes? Sure, but if you get a chance to play basketball at UCI or SDSU, which would you choose? The Big West or the MWC? SDSU is CLEARLY a bigger time program.

Wow! I love how Gottlieb gives props to our basketball program, but that guy should just stay away from talking about academics. I believe his statements to be false, and I suspect that he is actually confusing DJ with Brandon. BTW, Brandon graduated a semester early didn't he? Looks like the gamble payed off big for the young man and for SDSU. One other thing:
According to Gottlieb, Kawhi Leonard is only 6'5.
Now, maybe they've exaggerated his size, but I've never heard or seen anything listing him shorter than 6'7. It a very big difference when you're talking about a forward. 6'5 will not get you into the NBA no matter how talented you are. 6'7, on the other hand, and now you're a serious prospect.
Case in point: Antonio Gates was an All-American his senior year at Kent St. However, at "only" 6'4, there was NO CHANCE he'd ever even sniff the NBA. Thus his career with the Chargers.

Outside of stanford, does any school that doesn't accept partial qualifiers have different academic entrance requirements? Aren't the other at least top 7 conferences basically just pass the clearinghouse and then individual requirements at school, like sdsu has passing math and writing proficiencies and or classes to be eligible for soph year

That was a great piece on SDSU's Basketball team! Last year SDSU and the MWC were dead to ESPN. Now, Joe Lunari seems to feel the Aztecs are a 1 or 2 seed in the tournament. What a difference a year makes, without the conference tournament championship, the Aztecs probably don't make the NCAA's last year.

That win over Gonzaga is the gift that keeps on giving. Even with them having a down year (i.e. not currently in the top 25) everyone still points to that win as our signature win. Plus, that was the biggest hurdle in being undefeated. Even with 1 loss the attention we would be gettin as a #14 team for example would be so much less.

Yes, but there were a lot of late upsets and we would have been right on the cut line. It is entirely possible that we would have been the first team out in back to back years. I think we were in after we beat unm in the semi's
