Currently "Yes" leads, with most opposition coming from the eastern seaboard and Kansas.
I'd have to say, if we can beat BYU three times (twice in conf. plus the conf. tourney) to be undefeated - yeah, that's #1 seed worthy...
(ESPN has a poll about SDSU being a #1 seed? Surreal.)

What a supid f***ing poll question.
The correct answer: Duh.
But what they're really saying is this:
Should a non-BCS school be allowed to be a member of our blue-blooded club, and should we confer a hallowed No. 1 ranking on such riff-raff?

Shocking that the majority of the north east says no.

I don't believe there would be a valid argument to not give them a 1 seed if they go undefeated. The MWC is the # 4 conference in RPI. If an ACC, Pac-10 or SEC team went undefeated there would be no question they would get a 1 seed and all 3 of those conference are ranked behind the MWC.

What a totally stupid poll question. It is just begging for eastern bias. You can already see that in the results.

I can understand why people on the East Coast are skeptical.
Last year four MWC teams made the tourney but none made it to the Sweet 16. #3-seed NM was blown out by #11 Wash in the second round.
In 2009, #5 seed Utah was blown out in the first round by #12 Arizona. #8 seed BYU was blown out by #9 seed TA&M.
I could go on. In fact, in the 12 year existence of the MWC, I think UNLV (2007) and Utah (2002) are the only teams to advance to the Sweet 16.

Obviously yes. I wonder if we'd be the first undefeated team to not get a 1 seed in the tournament. Doubt we'll go undefeated either way.

But previous tournament results should have no effect on seeding for this year's tournament. In a perfect world it should be based solely on this season's results.

Per this week's ESPN Power Rankings, Aztecs are still at #6, BYU still at #10 : "The Aztecs handled the Pit. Can they handle the Cougars? This is show-me time for the Aztecs. The doubters will either become believers or "I told you so" loudmouths when San Diego State plays at BYU on Wednesday night." ESPN points to next week's game vs. BYU as "The Game" (with Caps included) espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/powerrankings

5+ years ago, St Joes' was undefeated until getting blown out in the A10 tourney and still ended up with a #1 seed.

Wow, I guess you can't lose one game in order to be legit? Not if you're from a non-"Power" (read "BCS") conference... The Aztecs will need to prove themselves to everyone.

Well currently the entire country believes we should be a #1 seed according to this poll. The only state on the fence is Vermont and they are 50/50 exactly.
