-Dan Hammerschmidt for OC, former OC at CSU when Lubbick had solid teams, i remember a lot of 2 tightend sets from them, thinking theyd be a serious offense w/ better talented players -Dave Schramm if Chow gets OC at Utah, alum, been in spread but i believe he has a pro set bkgrnd. -DC longshot: dL coach Tosh Lupoi from Cal, best recruiter in cfb, can coach DL while also DC title and learn/assist Long yet Long still calls game...kinda like Chargers O (selmon is OC but turner calls game)

Andy Ludwig is my guess for OC.
For DC, I haven't the foggiest so I think I'll stick with Rocky.

Andy Ludwig is my guess for OC. . From this article 2 yrs ago when Ludwig was hired as Cal's OC, it appears he has bounced around a lot, albeit at known programs. Why do you suspect Ludwig?

We've "heard" from people here that he's... 1. From a PAC school 2. Coached in a BCS game 3. Worked with Borges Ludwig is the only guy I could find that we'd have a chance at that fits that bill...

My choices for OC: 1. Friedgen 2. Buh 3. Toledo 4. Chow Andy Buh is Nevada's DEFENSIVE coordinator. As an aside, failing to retain him from Craft's staff was just one of Chuck Long's many blunders. A former player whose name everyone would recognize told me he was hearing that Buh, not Kaumeyer, was regarded in the coaching fraternity as Tom's best hire. Somebody who knew Buh posted on AztecTalk that he had run into him on campus right after his interview with Chuck and Andy really wanted to stay. Instead Chuck hired the scary guy to be his LB coach and then fired him after two years while Buh was hired by Harbaugh and in four years went from Stanford's LB coach, to co-DC to Nevada's DC and he's now considered Nevada's head coach in waiting. (Tick, tick, tick . . .) Any of the other three would be great IMO, particularly Chow or Friedgen. Either would be as good an OC as anybody in the conference would have. If Rocky doesn't hire any of those three, look for him to hire Dodd, who would be fine too. Look at who Tulane's QB is. Ryan Griffin, a kid from Chaminade HS in the SF Valley. A pro-style kid who was Phil Steele's #45 coming out and had a very good 2010 season on a very bad team. That's impressive to me in that it shows both guys continue to have recruiting ties to SoCal despite being in the Deep South. Did not know this, but it does say a lot about why Chuck Long was not successful and why Hoke was. I am not sure how good a HC Hoke is, but he is very good about putting together a quality coaching staff which is a big part of it. I agree, it will be Rocky Long as DC. I just hope he can get someone as good as Borges at OC and couple of assistants that can pull in the recruits. If so, the Aztecs will keep rolling.

OKay, AZTECS are on the clock! Tick Tick Tick. If Rocky cannot find an offensive coordinator on the caliber of Borges or now Johnson at UCLA, or the caliber of Bosie's or TCU's OCs, AZTECS will have taken a step backwards. Money should not be the issue?,,,walkonfan.. ;D

;D Do you think we will be able to keep the RB's and WR and OLs recruits and sign LOIs on Feb. 2nd if we don't have the OC and Oline and RB coaches on Board? Of course Rocky is on the clock, it is critical, blow these hires and were back to the T. Toller era ;Dl..walkonfan...

My guess is that if the OL, RB, and OC are not hired by Wed. next week, you will see recruits jumping ship..I hope I am wrong, we will see. In the past, money was the main factor, it should not be the case this time, I am hoping that Rocky Long will get it done!..walkonfan...

I'm pretty sure Rocky said that he's hired some coaches already they just have to go through the background check that SDSU runs. So we may have coaches named on Monday. OC may take longer. I disagree about the part of recruits jumping ship simply because we've added offensive recruits since Hoke left (Wright).

According the ASR (a pay site) and the UT, Coach Long has already had phone contact with the verbals and made assurances of continuity in both the offense and defense. We'll be fine. At any rate, a good coaching hire is worth more at this point than hiring someone to fill the staff out just to save one recruiting class.

Seems that the recruits are still re-confirming and signing - its more important to get the right staff in place anyway - a recruiting class is one year a staff is hopefully for the next 5 - 10 years.
Not sure where these names are coming from - very few run a pro-style that rocky has committed to - and none look too impressive - hate to say but if rocky wants to contuine what that other guys started, he has to get top notch coordinators... including a DC

Seriously Tosh is a great kid Coached my son two years at the Cal camp and was mentored by Ken Delgado who he is still very close to. Ken of course was mentored by Claude Gilbert, but he has no experience as a DC . MY guess is Rocky will coach the defense or we would already have a DC,but just a guess. Nobody I know knows anything about what Rocky's plan are but If I were to guess a wild one ,I would say Dennis Green for OC. No reason other than he lives in san Diego ran a pro offense and is coaching again. No Dave Schramm Dave ran the running game the wr coach ran the passing. frankly I would like to see George Cortez the former Cal OC get the job,or Rich Olson.

Eric Mangini's name is being thrown around Twitter a couple times as a possible DC candidate. Weather or not it's a joke, who knows.
