Where does it say that Long was required to notify UNM per his contract or that UNM was not informed either which way? It said they had a clandestine meeting. They were trying to keep it a secret that's for sure. We don't know if he told UNM and we also don't know everything about how the Hoke deal went down. It seems Sterk wasn't totally taken by surprise if he had a replacement already lined up.

When it comes to Rocky, we know nothing and just because it was clandestine does not mean that all contractual obligations and protocall were not followed. Supposition is not Fact. It is a Fact that Hoke did not follow the terms of his contract.

It said they had a clandestine meeting. They were trying to keep it a secret that's for sure. We don't know if he told UNM and we also don't know everything about how the Hoke deal went down. It seems Sterk wasn't totally taken by surprise if he had a replacement already lined up. What we do know is that Hoke was required to give notice and he didn't. Sterk made that known. When it comes to Rocky, we know nothing and just because it was clandestine does not mean that all contractual obligations and protocall were not followed. Supposition is not Fact. It is a Fact that Hoke did not follow the terms of his contract. It is also a fact that Hoke was an ingrate and he treated OUR university like insignificant garbage on his way out. THAT's where I have problem. And the situations were different between what Hoke had here and what Rocky had at UNM. - For one, we knew that Hoke aspired to the Michigan job. It wasn't exactly a secret, and therefore it wasn't really necessary to keep the fact that there had in fact been contact between him and Michigan a national security level secret.
- Like Erik said, Rocky wanted out partially because he wasn't getting the support he needed to build a championship caliber program. Hoke was being offered everything he wanted to get the job done. Thus, there was no reason for him to behave like it was a second rate program not worthy of his respect.
- It was pretty well known at the time in Albuquerque that Rocky was somewhat at odds with the new AD and new university president. The writing was on the wall that he wouldn't be getting any kinds of upgrades that he wanted (facilities, salaries, recruiting resources, etc.), and that the new admins weren't exactly enamored with him. He was likely on his way out anyway had he not resigned. As it stood, they were all to happy to negotiate a buyout of his remaining contract. The same cannot be said about Hoke and SDSU.
I've said it many times before: I have no problem with the way Hoke met with Minnesota. He was just exploring an opportunity that was out there, perhaps out of nothing more than curiosity. Even Chris Petersen and Gary Patterson have done it. I'm sure Kyle Whittingham has done it. I put Rocky talking to SDSU back in 2005 in the same category.

Here's something else - Hoke (and his agent) worked up a, "Letter to the fans of Michigan." How about a letter to the fans of SDSU thanking them for their support over the last two years? That would have been a really classy move. I certainly would have taken the two minutes it would require to write that kind of letter and I'd post it somewhere (or have someone do it forme) and send copies to the San Diego media if I left the program. Everything about how this went down is disappointing. Hoke didn't do anything in a classy or considerate way, and that just seems to go against everything that he preached while he was here. At this point all I can say is this - GO ROCKY! Kick Hoke's ass on 9/24!
