If we are going to have a fuzzy little thing for children at games, why does it have to be the BYU Cougar? Can't we get our own? The Fred Noonan School of Navigation. ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)

Well, unless you're an admin in the know, your two cents are worth no more than Steve's, Fred's or anyone's, so stop trying to act like an authority with your mere opinion. It's not necessary to be an "authority" to state a fact that is public knowledge. There's no opinion involved when I state facts such as the following: The Aztec Warrior is our mascot... the university's official position is that he will remain our mascot... Anyone making unfounded claims that Zuma will remain while the Aztec Warrior will be phased out is selling you 2 cents worth of pure bullsh!t. I'm not buying any. Authority and public knowledge? Zuma's coming out was a surprise to everyone. Those in the authority kept it from public knowledge otherwise Zuma wouldn't have had a coming ouf the the closet party. I think you should put the pipe down, Mr. Zuma lover.

The admin will never care as much as we do, as long as they are not alumni. f x x x Zuma. That's my opinion.

Also I think Monty really needs a new shield. The one he has right now looks like a wimpy paper machete. He should have a shield similar to the one we use for football games. Monty needs an entire new uniform.

Monty needs an entire new uniform. Actually, I think today's uniform for Monty is the most authentic and true representation of what the mascot looked like back in the day (1950's-early 60's) We have to stay true to tradition.

I think you should put the pipe down, Mr. Zuma lover. Wow, you don't seem to understand the debate at all. It has nothing to do with "loving" Zuma. Frankly, I could care less. The questions are, was Zuma created to replace the Aztec Warrior or not? Will the university get rid of the Aztec Warrior or not? SDSU has been asked these questions, and they have answered, "no, the Warrior is here to stay. Zuma is a secondary mascot". People like you can't seem to get that through your skull. Also, the poll on this website indicated that you are in the minority. It appears that most of us just aren't offended by a student in a cat suit. You just don't get it... Perhaps you should stop drinking the bong water?

When my mom attended SDSU and was on the cheer squad in the 1950's the "Aztec" costumes resembled North American Plains Indians. Perhaps in the spirit of "tradition" we should form a committee and demand that the Aztec Warrior adorn a ceremonial headdress from the Sioux of Blackfoot?

If you want feathers, shiny glitter, gold, and muscles... buy a ticket to Showgirls Las Vegas, or maybe you'd prefer Thunder Down Under?

Your description sounds like the Aztec Majorettes that the then, SDSC used to have. Didn't they used to perform with the marching band mostly? I don't believe that they were 'mascot' per say.

Perhaps not mascot, but clearly the girls' costumes were not consistent with "Aztecs". In earlier times there was a "savage indian" that would emerge from a teepee to chase coeds.

I think I can draw somewhat of a parallel between what's happened as the Commons were replaced by Rubios, McDonalds, et al. and Monty being "upgraded" to Zuma.
Nobody ever liked that cafeteria food anyway, did they?
LOL

As traditional as a Sioux headdress for the AZTECS.
