Man I hope he is right this time. The Last time (2006) SDSU was on his most improved list the Aztecs tanked. 22 of the 24 teams on the list made bowls. Typical Aztecs to be one of the 2 teams on that list not to improve.
He says SDSU to the New Mexico bowl. That would be huge for us but looking at the schedule I really don't think SDSU will make a bowl this year.
The key game is NM State. If the Aztecs can win on the road SDSU should be 3-1 heading in conference. It's pretty bad when a road game at NMSU has you worried but SDSU has lost it's last 17 road openers. Not good.

We shall see. The Key games are @ Wyoming, Air Force and Colorado St. here. Win 2 of those and the Aztecs should go bowling.

I have to disagree on CSU. 1. CSU was a perfect 0-8 in the Mountain West in 2009. 2. CSU loses all five of its starting offensive linemen. 3. CSU loses both of its starting wide receivers. 4. CSU's starting QB will likely be a true freshman; however talented, he will never have seen a 3-3-5. 5. SDSU has beaten CSU 4 of the last 5, the only loss being by just 4 points. I say we win that one comfortably.

Why do you say that? Last year we had Wyo beat and this year they lose 3 OL (one who started something like 30 games) and their entire DL. This is a game we could win even though it is on the road. AFA loses their entire OL and we have them at home. We imploded last year, but this is a game we should win at home. I think Hoke and staff will get the team prepared for the option. CSU loses 4 OL (they had one of the most experienced OL's in all of college football last year) and their starting QB. Lindley just carved up their D last year. Since we have them at home, I would think we are favored and this is a game we should win. I am not saying any game will be easy, but I like our chances in all these games.

Lindley just carved up their D last year. Yeah, Sampson was open the entire game and VJ Brown didn't even play. With both of them available, CSU's secondary will be in big trouble.

Anything less than 6-6 will be very disappointing this season.
Lindley, with Brown and Sampson are going to light up the scoreboard.

I say it, too -- and I'm not even counting that ridiculous game against Nicholls State. If we were to replace them with the Crimson Tide, we'd still finish the season bowl eligible.
But... schedule as is: 7 wins.

The one thing I like about football is analyzing the season. The past doesn't matter. I would be Hoke, Al and Rocky don't care about our past.

Evaluating the Aztecs on paper has not been very productive. I do not see any clear cut Aztecs win games on the schedule save Nicholls State. And they concern me because of who we are. Until we see the loser mentality that is SDSU football defeated on the field of play paper evaluations still risk turning up paper tigers. the Fred Noonan School of Navigation.

Exactly.
There isn't a program in the nation that has so much unfulfilled potential.

Maybe the program will be better than in the past 8 years, however the track record says a win in Laramie is not likely. Wins vs Air Force are also rare. Can the Aztecs beat UNLV, New Mexico and Colorado St. and win the 3 non conference games vs New Mexico St., Nicholls St. and Utah St.? That is 6 wins. The only problem is the Aztecs are the worst road team in the conference, so a slip in Las Cruces or Albuquerque would not break form.
Until the Aztecs get some all conference performers in the trenches, 6 wins may be overly optimistic.

Normally I'd agree with you about winning in Laramie, but Wyoming will be coming off of a three game stretch of @tcu, vs Utah and @byu. ACS will be lucky to be upright after that stretch. I think Wyoming may be down for the count after playing Texas, Boise and that three game stretch. We beat them in Laramie in '03, so I don't think it's out of the question for us to do it again.

Agreed,. After the pelting of the aformentioned games, it is likely that Wyoming will be 2 - 6 at the time they square off against the Aztecs. If they feel an overwhelming pressure that a healthy Aztec team can deliver in the first quarter of our game, I say they fold at that point and begin looking to New Mexico the following week. Also, if AFA beats Wyoming in Laramie, certainly the Aztecs can as well, this year.

I watched the re-run of the Air Force game on the MTN today and I've come to the conclusion that our success will hinge on the offense this year. The defense will take care of its side of the ball.
If that offensive line has the same returning players starting then we're going to be in big, big, trouble this year. They may have been in shape, but you either have it or you don't. They don't, they're still slugs. I couldn't believe the number of whiff blocks. The left side of the line especially, is going to be Lindley's nightmare. Now I understand why Hoke had to go the JC route in a big way.

I watched the re-run of the Air Force game on the MTN today Masochist I know, it was more cruel than pulling the wings off ladybugs or stepping on bees to get the pollen off their legs. Then suddenly my dog showed up in the forth quarter, ..............

If that offensive line has the same returning players starting then we're going to be in big, big, trouble this year. If we don't win three out of the four OOC games, then we'll know how well Long recruited the lines. Why BY NOW is anyone (san one) even mentioning that loser in any context?

I agree. SDSU will be the "Most Improved Team" in the MWC.
I am just so impressed with your coaching staff. They are winners. Every one of them. Hoke will NOT let these guys lose games they should win. (...ok, Wyoming was an anomaly last year. That won't happen again)
Hoke will "will" your guys to win this year....and from the sounds of the spring workouts...your guys are buying into it.
Also...you have either the #1 or #2 (Dalton?) best QB in the whole stinkin' conference. SO MUCH depends on that position in the college game. He is an assasin....and it's not going to be fun playing you guys the next two years while he's behind center.
SDSU I think put up the 3rd highest total against BYU last year...your offense alone will outscore a lot of people this year...even if your defense takes a while to gel.
You should be 3-1 worst case coming out of the OOC schedule. You only have to win 3 games within the conference foes....totally achievable.
All these teams are up for grabs when SDSU comes up on the schedule:
CSU Wyoming New Mexico Air Force (tougher...but it can be done...your defense will either win it for you or lose it for you) Las Vegas BYU (gasp!...but they are rebuilding...and if Bronco can work his magic, the Cougs come out on top, and you do play us at LES. But, if you're going to take down the Cougs...this is the year to do it: new QB, new RB's, new defensive line, new LBers, new TE's) But...we do have our entire offensive bulldozers coming back...maybe we'll be Ground Chuck this coming year.
Certainly...there are 3 victories somewhere in that mix...most likely more.
2010 is shaping up to be a very nice year in athletics for SDSU. Basketball is scary good. Football is rounding the corner.
