Be sure to thank many of the republican backers on this board for it costing over $50 to fill up your tank! Wow, an innovation that was invented over 100 years ago still costs over $4 a gallon. Who profits? Oil companies, the republican party and the terrorists. Carter had it right. He layed out a plan for the USA to go green after the hostage take over. Why send our dollars to these terrorist countries? However Regan took over and reversed course and now we have global warming and $4.00 a gallon gas! www.commondreams.org/views05/0503-22.htm

Ludicrous! Were I to be one to shoot the messenger, this web site would be in tatters. I read the whole thing and just reject it in its entirety.

The left mistakes any activity, particularly if is wrong-minded and wasteful, as "goodness" so long as the activity fits in with their ideologies. A failed Department of Energy and its "look busy" policies over the past 30+ years being the prime example. The wasteful 870 Billion stimulus being another.
If the Carter Admin had just two brain cells that were functioning properly, we would have nuclear power plants all over the country reducing our dependence on foreign oil. So now the solution is to try to emulate the Amish. Pathetic.

I wish I could afford to live in Coronado next to the nuclear powered Aircraft carriers and subs or on the San Clemente Hills over looking the San Onofre power plant. I'll trade if someone is willing to take a large cut in the value of their house.

I am a Republican.
Thank you very much.
Now thank a Democrat for F@*cked up teachers, lazy ass union members, and a POS healthcare bill that no body wants.

In your argument I was seeing something more along the scale of San Onofre which has a much greater footprint and requires 4 billion gallons of sea water for cooling each day. How many San Onofre's could you put in San Diego County for example...and where? . Unit 1 at san Onofre was installed in the mid 70's.. there was a lot less residential nearby then...and most of that is military.

Youre whining about $ 4.00 a gallon gas. Wait till your Global Warming Initiaves kick in , backed by that Republican-in-disguise governor we've had the past term. Gas will go to $ 8.00 a gallon thanks to that. $4.00 a gallon will look real good then. If you voted to go forward with the global warming initiatives when you voted for prop 23, you have only yourself to blame along with those who voted the same. What a scam. My advice: get in shape and ride a bike.

It may have worked, may not - and that's assuming there were no 3-Mile Islands/Chernobyls "all over the country" making it not cost/heath effective. That debate aside, to name-call the Carter Admin as not having two functioning brain cells is asinine. Carter had foresight as to the problems with oil-dependence and had plans, e.g., solar-energy. Perhaps misguided at the time, but more than two functioning brain cells went into the thought: www.commondreams.org/views05/0503-22.htmTo snark that administration, alluding that they had their heads in the sand/their rears (when it came to energy/oil-dependence) - well, I’ll be nice and say maybe more than two functioning brain cells went into your thought, but not many more than that…

America. Its the Dems who don't want to tap it, they are the primary reason our fuel prices are climbing. Energy prices are mostly based on supply and demand. Demand is constant. Supplies, thanks to the green worshiping democrats are not abundant. In fact the US transfers over a billion dollars a day to Middle Eastern bank accounts for their oil. That is an idiotic way to manage our energy needs. BTW, President Carter's foreign policies destabilized the entire Middle East by not supporting the Shah of Iran. Granted the Shah wasn't a saint, but he did help keep the other anti-western countries in check.

Carter had it right?? Ah that's peanuts.
It is true however, that OPEC members are all Republicans like all the college professors are democrats.
It is.

I prefer to thank those Democratics who actually did it (as reflected in the psots and links above):
Issuing a new offshore drilling ban: Restricting Canadian Oil Shale Restricting exploration in small parts of Alaska Cancelling existing permits: Imposing a moratorium on oil and gas drilling Needlessly delaying offshore leasing: Pushing for more taxes on American energy

It is evil in their minds. If we spent the $2.5 billion a year we spend on Global Warming crazy stuff and spent it on real energy issues, we would all be much much better off.

Your point is well taken dav, but I'm more than happy to pay more for gas for: *Imposing a moratorium on oil and gas drilling *Issuing a new offshore drilling ban Of BHO's actions since taking office, these two have made me the happiest.
