It's over for another 4 years. I wondered why soccer is rather irrelevant in the USA, perhaps it's that the WC only comes every 4 years and then fades away. There is always a Super Bowl, World Series or NCAA hoops tourney that Americans can relate to but this infatuation with "Big League Soccer" is over for now. I doubt many will follow Ghana, Brazil or?? It's pretty much over today. JMO

Every year after the WC a new cycle begins and those that want to can still see the USMNT every couple of months. Hopefully the WC grabbed some new fans but for us that follow closely, its a new cycle a another 4 years to build toward 2014

It'll be nice but I have a feeling it will be the swan song for some of our players and for Bradley. Hopefully we have a coach in place by the next friendlies in Sept/Oct.

Hopefully we have a coach in place by the next friendlies in Sept/Oct. Yeah I think Bradley will be replaced and we need to rebuild our back four for the next cycle. Onto good news now, Davies played in his first game. Man if we would have had Davies and Altidore up front for this WC, I think things would have been different. I think Davies and Altidore will be a staple for us up top for the next two cycle's.

I'm not in the loop as much as you soccer fans are, but it seems like the problems the US has is a constant, never-ending cycle. Poor defense in the back, poor communication, and we just don't seem to have the elite strikers or players that some of the European teams have. Guys like Klose from Germany, Torres from Spain, etc, etc. We have a lot of good players, a lot of talent, but we don't have a great TEAM.

First of all you need to remember that our best athletes don't play soccer. They go and play football, basketball and baseball. You also have to remember that other countries best athletes do play soccer and that is the only sport they are about. It is not like that here in the United States. Secondly our back 4 usually play pretty good and we do play well as a team. You also need to remember Gooch our main central defender was hurt and no where near a 100%. A healthy Gooch would have made a big difference. He is an enforcer when healthy. The striker position we do need to improve at. Altidore is young, only 20 years old and only getting better and Charlie Davies was hurt. A healthy Davies would have made a huge difference for us. He is very fast and we missed that up front. His family lives here in San Diego. He was watching the WC here in beautiful SD. By the next WC in Brazil they will be one of the better pair of strike duo's in the world imo. Ryan, I think Klose only had 2 goals last year in the Bundesliga. We are playing a game of catch up here in the United States compared to the rest of world. We are doing a good job of it and progressing nicely. We are getting better every year. I think we should do very well in the next WC. We have a very young team. We only need to replace and shore up the back 4. And that's not a bad thing. The rest of the team will be back.

Fair enough, and like I said, I'm not as in tuned as some of you guys are, but I noticed a stark contrast in the defensive mindsets of our team as compared to some others....we seemed to be lackadaisical at times in pursuit of the ball while some other teams put very tight, relentless pressure on the ball which leads to turnovers and counterattacks....guess we'll see what happens in 2014. I do like Jozy and I hope Charlie can come back and be a force in 2014.

I have to disagree with you Ryan. This WC the US team was actually the reverse of most of our previous teams (meaning we sucked on D but had a pretty good O). Things are looking up for our team though with a nice crop of young defenders with promise coming through the pipeline.
Hopefully by the next WC we will have a balanced team but I m really looking forward to 2018/2022 as that is when the fruits of our current labor "should" bare fruit.

My only hope as I really get into the World Cup craze is that the U.S. can contend for the whole enchilada in 2014.
