Rocky's last 2-3 years were on the decline. His teams were good when we had generational, game breaking running backs. We had a great run with Muema, Hillman, Pumphrey, and Penny.

Once Penny was gone, we had good, but not great backs. Ninevweee game breakers or difference makers. Without any home run threats.
, our offense became terrible... unwatchable. The offense became atrocious, we started losing games we previously won.

Rocky REFUSED to bring in an innovative OC, instead going with Horton. Installed the "spread" his last season, but that was a joke. He still ran and called plays in an overly conservative, predictable fashion. We saw 8-9 guys in the box.

Additionally he couldn't develop even a serviceable QB to save his life. You can not win consistently in college football with subpar QB play year after year

Also, though we "won", we never even sniffed a BCS NY6 Bowl. If Rocky wasn't such a dinosaur on offense, if he had brought in a QB/OC guru, we'd have been a top 2-3 G5 team in probably half his seasons. But nope, not even 1 season. THAT should be the goal.

So it was nice to have some 9 and 10 win seasons and win a "Who Cares" Bowl, that did not ignite the fan base, the media, the city & county of San Diego. We were invisible nationally.

Rocky was checking out as a HC. Let's keep the facts straight.

I don't think Rocky 100% refused to hire an innovative OC. I'd say it was more like 30% Rocky and 70% SDSU wouldn't /Couldn't provide the the funds to hire a good offensive staff.

Well, he "unretired" rather quickly don't you agree? Yes, we won under him but did we ever make a NYD bowl game under Rocky. Are we satisfied playing in the Famous Potato Frisco and Hawaii Bowls?

Rocky was forced out. SDSU wanted more offense but wouldn't pay for the staff and wanted a friendly fundraiser for the stadium not a tough ol football coach.

I believe we should be a minimum of 6-4 if we could have held the leads, or played better 4Q defense. 

1. Central Michigan lost 22-21, CM kicks a FG last 5 seconds of the fourth quarter
2. Washington State, lost 29-26, Wazzu score 2 TDs in the fourth quarter
3. New Mexico, lost 21-16, Lobos score 1 TD in the fourth quarter 

Better coaching would have led to victories in all three games like not playing for a FG after your D got an INT to gift wrap the O the ball at the CMU 11 after our kicker just missed a chippy minutes prior

We've dropped to #123 out of 134 D1 schools in this week's The Athletic. Our beat down from Utah State dropped us from #120. Two schools that are lower than us are #124 Wyoming and #134 Kent State (0-11).

Not sure how Wyoming dropped two places after only losing to their #10 Boise State 17-13.

Kent State is 0-11 in the 2nd season after Lewis left them. Was the cupboard bare, were there too many kids leaving? Inquiring minds want to know. We could always try to get the guy that replaced Lewis, Kenni Burns, he's an eye-popping 1-22 over the last two years and 0-15 in conference.

BTW, someone on this board was defending the hire against someone else bringing up Lewis's Kent State record of 24-31 by saying that Lewis had to play a lot of good P5 schools OOC and that's why his record was so mediocre. But his conference record in the MAC was a very pedestrian 19-17 over 5 years.

Lewis was a prolific passer in high school in Chicago and was signed by Wisconsin. But he was soon shifted to TE where he sat for a couple years and finally caught his first and only pass his Senior year (7 yards). It's strange he doesn't throw more to the TE as that was his position for three years in college.

He graduated but left with one year of eligibility remaining. When you look at his results as an OC/QB coach, he did quite well but not so great as a head coach. Maybe it's the Peter Principle at work here?
