Remember when we were pretty good, but people complained because Rocky was boring? Yep, and it led to Rocky's retirement as he hinted at in his closing press conference.

Some folks put a premium on game excitement over wins.

Some folks put a premium on game excitement over wins. Oldie Out Funny thing is we haven't seen excitement AND wins since the early 90's, Rocky did bring wins but he didn't bring the fans. Facts are facts people, we here at the AztecMesa are Aztecs Fans but the general population in San Diego are just fans wanting to be entertained.

Remember when we were pretty good, but people complained because Rocky was boring? Super sad that WINNING isn't good enough. ROCKY was great for SDSU. Too bad the fans and admin didnt think that was good enough.

Too bad the fans and admin didnt think that was good enough. Fans that complained weren't wrong. But if you don't throw money to try and bring in a good offensive mind, it is just complaining. Pretty much what we are doing now too. Perpetual problem for us.

Remember when we were pretty good, but people complained because Rocky was boring? Sports are a form of entertainment. Boring “entertainment” is a failure. If we are great and win enough, the style of play can be admired bc of the results. Coach Fisher coached low scoring and often boring defense focused teams, but won enough to make it part of the culture and fun. Rocky didn’t as we couldn’t win a meaningful bowl game. The running game with Penny and DJ was fun, but that was only a small portion of the experience. SDSU football hasn’t been an event to be at in some time. There’s a lot of people at fault for this. I blame the Athletic Department and Marketing Department

As a microcosm re the "boring" posts above, my last two in-person games at The Snapper (UNR last year and OSU this year) we were shut out and I didn't get up out of my seat or get excited once. As a result, I've had no desire to return. Call me a bad fan, but living in SD I have much better ways to spend 5+ hours....for example the Zag game at The V this coming Monday

Hoke created a lot of buzz in his first go around here. Fans were excited and attendance began to grow. Then Michigan destroyed it. Can we ever recapture something like that again? Highly unlikely with NIL.

I blame the Athletic Department and Marketing Department If would be really helpful, if the announcers on the TV broadcast pointed out all the intricacies of great defense and how exciting it can be to watch great defense. Instead, a lot of times the announcers would just say stupid things like “it’s not really an exciting game so far 0-0.”

Sounds like the sort of thing that happens when you have a depleted o-line.

Yup, we won games with Rocky but not enough people cared. And I doubt that Rocky would have stayed much longer anyway. I'm hoping that if the PAC TV deal ever gets settled it may give us enough money to have a bit more flexibility. The history of hiring coaches at SDSU is abysmal. I don't know why we have done so poorly but we have.
