I think they are thinking of Ben Perez, who played for us 8 years ago, only played about 10 minutes a game before transferring to Iona. I think Ferrari deserves more minutes. He looks great in the game, strong (stronger then McKinney), good at driving and kicking the ball, and making 3's. He hasn’t attempted a shot yet in a game, what am i missing? He shot some in the exhibition game, but I can't personally see him get meaningful minutes. His defense wasn't great the other night and he got taken out after giving UCSD an easy layup and we know that you aren't going to get minutes on a Brian Dutcher led team if you're defense isn't great

His shooting may be an asset in short stints, but his defense was sub-par in the UCSD game. First real game with the Aztecs though, things could improve over time. Dutch and staff will determine that. I thought he looked way better on the defensive end than McKinney did. Yeah he's stronger then McKinney is, he had to box out a UCSD guy 5" taller then him and did it with ease. He had four steals against CSU San Marcos too.

Against UCSD, he set up one of our players for a wide open three in the first half in the (1 minute) that he was in there that our guy missed. He looks (significantly) better then McKinney - taller, stronger, more versatile player. I don't understand how he plays as well as he did against San Marcos, and then Dutch only gives him 2 minutes of game time in a game where multiple of our guards were struggling.

He gave up a really easy layup before dutch took him out. Probably the easiest basket UCSD made all day which is not good in a close game with little scoring

I'm not sure how closely you've been watching the games so far, but McKinney is definitely a better defender than Ferrari. Also, a better ball handler and passer. Ferrari might be a better spot-up shooter and maybe could be an Adam Seiko like player for us, at least offensively. The season will bear that out as it goes along.

We're lucky to have Kimo in the sense that he makes a great practice player, adds to our depth, and is a really smart kid. But if he is getting serious minutes we're most likely in trouble.
Mckinney was 2nd team all WCC last season and started every game for USD. Bringing him off the bench is a luxury and going to be an adjustment for him. It's not particularly close who should be getting majority of the minutes.

I mean, it's not really being shown if Kimo isn't getting a chance to compete for playing time bc he's not on scholarship. Hard to bear that out when he only got 2 minutes in the last game. Edit: With Byrd's injury though, who know, Ferrari may get more opportunity.

McKinney seems to have found his stroke against Occidental So has Ferrari. Everyone is making everything from 3. Lots of extra passes, great selfless play from the team.

nice to see the guards playing so well - but it was against a team playing a basic 2-3 zone
the Zags defense will be much different
key of course is the Forwards - JCJ - Heide - Compton- MG and Shay Johnson are going to get a major test - their results so far against all the current opponents have not been that good
