Interesting news coming from NBC Sports Nicole Auerbach, Pete Thamel ESPN & Dennis Dodds at CBS.
"As others have reported, this should be a week that gives us realignment clarity re: the new Pac-12 and Memphis/Tulane/USF/UTSA," Auerbach prefaced before saying, "The Mountain West is also working on having its remaining members essentially recommit to each other/the conference.
Others have reported that the MWC will take the poaching and exit fees and provide a one-time pay out to stay in the MWC.
The Mountain West conference is reportedly "amid a significant push to keep its core of eight schools together, which includes one-time payments of guaranteed money to the schools," according to ESPN's Pete Thamel.
Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports, meanwhile, reported Monday that the Mountain West has reportedly "tried to convince members to sign a grant of rights (the conference does not have one)."
"As always with realignment, there’s a fear of inaction. Schools worry about being left behind when others jump. But my sense from sources is that the AAC schools are being patient and deliberate — and talking to each other. They’re weighing the risks. There’s a great deal of skepticism within the industry about the Pac-12/its consultant projecting $10-15M per school in a media rights deal that doesn’t exist yet. And the AAC exit fees would be significant — who pays them? So, we’ll see."
Exit fees and media rights revenue, still unknown. Options look to be CW, TNT Sports, Apple, Amazon and ESPN as possible suitors. With Streaming as a big component.

We should be able to choose more than 2. I think between 3 and 5 teams will be added. I don't see Memphis and Tulane wanting to join unless there is an eastern hub to reduce travel. I see the following as realistic.
West Washington State Oregon State San Diego State Fresno State Boise State UNLV
East Colorado State Memphis Tulane UTSA South Florida
This picks up a bunch of good TV ratings markets (Las Vegas, Tampa, Memphis, New Orleans, San Antonio) and schools with good football or basketball and takes the top off of the AAC which would otherwise be the primary competition for the College Football Playoff spot. And most schools would only have to travel east to west or west to east 2-3 times per year.

Just got this email headline from Canzano "
"Canzano: 'It's decision time' -- Memphis, Tulane, and South Florida on Pac-12 clock Decision expected on Monday."

Some tidbits from the Canzano article
Leaders at Memphis, Tulane, and South Florida are weighing an offer to join the Pac-12 Conference and will decide on Monday.
“Today is the day to make a decision,” a source with one of those three schools told this publication.
The Pac-12 has grown to six members and could expand to as many as nine by the end of business on Monday. Should those three American Athletic Conference schools decide not to join, the Pac-12 is expected to pivot and look westward to form a more geographically aligned conference.

More from the article
Leaders of the trio of American Athletic Conference schools have the terms needed to make a decision. Included are media-rights contract projections for what would be a nine-member conference. A decision is expected on Monday.
Leaders at Memphis, Tulane, and South Florida are weighing their options and talking with their consultants. Some questions: Are they willing to sit and wait for an offer from a ‘P4’ conference that may not materialize in the next five years? Is access to the CFP enough to make what looks like a ‘last chance’ move with the Pac-12? Are the conference exit fees worth what they’d make up in media-rights dollars?
A source at UNLV told this publication that it has a call scheduled with the Pac-12 on Monday afternoon. The Rebels may be rooting for Memphis, Tulane, and South Florida to turn down the Pac-12.
University of Texas-San Antonio is not on the clock on Monday, per a source. But UTSA isn’t off the table. It could emerge later as a Pac-12 target.
• Utah State has been aggressive and proactive in recent days. It’s why the school has surfaced in media reports. Campus leaders have engaged with the Pac-12, and high-level donors at that school tell me they’d be willing to pay fees associated with a move to the Pac-12.

"Multiple scenarios remain in play for the Pac-12. One source referred to it as “a cascading order of offers.” One of the contingencies includes Gonzaga being offered membership to the Pac-12. I’m told that still could happen even if Memphis, Tulane, and South Florida join. Stay tuned."

It's not just travel time, it's traveling across multiple time zones. Much more difficult then a 3 hour flight in the same time zone, or across one time zone. Luckily sanity won out with the AAC teams. Lets say SDSU were to travel to Miami to play UM. Takeoff in SD is at noon and the flight is 5 hours. During the flight you are living at 8,000 ft (most commercial aircraft are pressurized to 8K) and sitting in a cramped space for that time, especially FB and BB players. You land and you body is telling you its 5 o'clock. But it's not, it's 8 o'clock and dark. The next year Miami flies here to play SDSU. Takeoff is noon. Flight time is a bit longer, 5hr 24m, but accommodations the same. When you land, however, you think its 5: 30PM but it is only 2:30PM.
