Cooper is great! Quick but not fast lol 27 rushes seems like a lot to me. Guess when it started working, we stuck with the hot hand.
O'Neil was totally different than the O'Neil we saw at fan fest..coach Lew seems to have got it right.
WR's need to finish their routes. (Anyone can get the long ball. Just keep running)
Is it me, or do the run plays develop slow as heck?

Your follow-up comment fits mine for sure. New staff and players were clearly jumpy the first half but settled down the second half and played some good ball. I still have some concerns in the trenches and cornerbacks, plus a lot of arm tackling like last year, but we should improve quite a bit over the next week. We might struggle vs the Beavers but I think we have a chance at being a good team overall. A ton of missed assignments on the offensive front including the TEs. To the point they whiffed on run blocks. Especially in the first half. That happened on almost every rushing play. That greatly improved in the second half. The procedure penalties seemed to die down in the second half. Brown learned how to catch a football after his first two targets were dropped and O'Neil got better with his accuracy once he settled in. This team has to quit playing stupid. Phillips with a great hit immediately messed it up by taunting the guy. Louis shoving the QB long after he released a pass that was intercepted. That's stupid football sdsustoner, I was a little concerned about how your dogs (and neighbors) were handling your reactions to the first-half play by the Aztecs. I remember one of games a few years ago you talking about ,I think his name was Doofus, kinda freaking out with you yelling at the TV during one of the poor offensive out puts from the Aztecs (The ASPC hopefully was not needed)* *People, please note the use of sarcasm here

Cooper going 27 carries for 223 yards and 2 TD's was a pretty big surprise.
No more running back by committee, I guess. With this guy, that's fine.

It did not surprise me with the amount of yards he obtained. Reminds me of Ronnie Hillman. Our deepest position on this team is RB. We have four guys that can fill in at a moment notice. Our OL and WR need to help out our QB. Too many catchable balls that were dropped and they need to win their one on one match up. The only positive we got out of this game was we are willing to throw the ball and are looking for big time WRs.

I'm not sure what to think after that game. I'm just glad the offense finally figured out that if they don't get penalties they can move the football and the defense figured out how to stop getting run over by a bad FCS squad in the second half. Also, did we get a new kicker since the back-up finished the game? The real test is next week. There were some very encouraging signs, but hard to tell against the quality that we played against. Is TAMC really bad? Or, are they pretty good, and we can take something away from it? We were a tale of two teams. I'm not surprised by the slow start. Hopefully we'll clean up the mess that we showed at times, and play like we did in the second half all game against Oregon St. We'll need to.

I agree Cooper looks solid, but he was overused - getting too many snaps. It seemed like he pretty much only came out when he asked for a break. As others have said, we have tons of depth at RB and the back ups should be getting more snaps. If this is going to be the norm, I expect that depth to go away via the transfer portal. I also think Lucky Sutton could really stand out, if given a chance.
As bad as O'Neil was at QB, I was not impressed with our WRs. They didn't seem to be getting much separation and often had trouble reading the ball and catching it. Related to that, does anyone know what's going on with Mekhi Shaw? Did he even get on the field yesterday? He has been out most reliable WR and I expected him to excel in this new offense.

O'Neil was not bad at all. His first quarter was bad, and his second quarter was mediocre, but he got better as the game went on. The kid is a true freshman. He was playing high school football a year ago! His improvement throughout the game was impressive.
And, even with the problems with the O-Line and his receivers dropping a few passes, he still ended up 22 for 33! 66% is pretty darned good! 2 TD's and 0 INT's. I'll take that any day from my starting QB.

Shaw is coming back from an injury. Not sure what you were seeing in O'Neil. After some early overthrows, he was stellar.

Mekhi broke his hand in June and just recently pulled a hamstring in practice. The staff is being very cautious with him. He is by far the best punt returner and a solid receiver. I was very impressed with Louis Brown #4 our transfer from Co St. I'm thinking we will come out much sharper vs Oregon St and if we win the Aztec bandwagon will get very crowded once again.

As he settled down he became more confident and looked really good to me.

That's stupid football Lewis spoke with Phillips right after that play and I'm sure he said something like "you took a great play that you made and ruined it by doing something stupid." Didn't see if he did the same with Louis but I expect so. Lots of film to learn from but I do like the fact that we got better as the game progressed. Next week, however, is going to be a helluva lot tougher.

Really? 3-0 on a FCS team makes you believe? It's because we are beating ourselves. I'm optimistic about us pulling it together. I see the potential. Just saying lol

I get what they're doing waiting for the hole to develop and be patient, but I don't know if the O'line can hold their blocks long enough against tougher competition. I guess we'll find out next week.

A replay of the game is available on MAX, the HBO streaming service for those interested who didn't/couldn't record the game.
