I thought they didn't have room to do the Sky Show at Snapdragon?

Because there is room to it now with the new park and partially closing a parking lot. If they wanted to do it every year they can!

They just had to use smaller shells than in the past and they incorporated more novel things like a drone show element. No reason why it couldn’t do on in a fully built out Mission Valley.

No reason why it couldn’t do on in a fully built out Mission Valley. Totally fair. But I'd say zero chance for a "SkyShow of old". You're probably right. The first SkyShow at Petco was a dud because of the smaller shells they had to use, but there was also a major technical malfunction with the drone show they had planned and the drones ended up not flying. We got to sit through 5 minutes of music with nothing else happening. The second one went better. The drone show was cool but it still wasn't the SkyShow of old. They might be able to bring back the old SkyShow for a little while at Snapdragon, but once that area gets all built out it won't be able to happen like that again. The old SkyShows routinely caught at least one tree on fire at Qualcomm, and that was with the shells being launched in the middle of a huge sea of asphalt. It's more likely that it will be the scaled down version that they brought to Petco - all of the music, all of the fireworks, but with a little less boom, and maybe some laser and drone work to help make up for lost ground.

Honestly, I don't give a rat's arse for any fireworks show, no matter how elaborate. I guess I'll never understand how those things attract so many people. Fireworks on the home side of the scoreboard is all I care to see.

I've always really liked fireworks, not sure why, but maybe because I subconsciously associate them with America's birthday, i.e. the 4th of July, which has always been my favorite holiday.
Anyway, I dislike the drones, but I think that's where things are going as they're obviously much better for the environment.
Although still pissed off and in somewhat disbelief over the PAC 12 collapse and SDSU missing out yet again, I'd laugh pretty hard if somehow Stanford or Cal were the ACC representative vs either of the remaining PAC 2.

Far too early question: What is parking and traffic like at Snapdragon? I haven't been over to the old Qualcomm site since the last event at the Q, which ironically was the last Holiday Bowl held there. I just bought my tickets for this year's game - Section 108 Row 23 which looks like pretty decent seats as far as I can tell. Just wondering if I should drive to the stadium and park there, or if I should park at say Old Town Transit Center and take the trolley in. The latter is what I used to do for the last half dozen or so Holiday Bowls because getting in and out of the Qualcomm lot for that game got to be really bad.

The city has to be pissed that we took the Holiday Bowl away from them. Turnaround is fair play. We were their subserviants with the usuage of Qualcomm stadium, for decades.

The city has to be pissed that we took the Holiday Bowl away from them. Turnaround is fair play. We were their subserviants with the usuage of Qualcomm stadium, for decades. It has nothing to do with the city. The HB had a partnership with the Padres to use Petco Park for a few years. It was the Padres who fronted the money for the seating renovation to accommodate football, with the money to be repaid through the duration of the contract to host the game there. I'm surprised/not surprised that it's being moved to Snapdragon. Surprised because the game environment at Petco was fantastic. Even though it very obviously isn't a football venue, having the game downtown where all of the team activities were and where most of the fans were staying was great. It was like a massive party down there with the fans of both schools milling around the Gaslamp. And there's just something weirdly and unexplainably cool about playing a football game in a baseball stadium. Also surprising because the HB folks were adamant about Snapdragon not having enough seats for their game. Not surprising because of the obvious - Snapdragon is a better football venue. Interestingly enough, tickets for the game at Snapdragon are quite a bit cheaper than they were at Petco. I expected the opposite given the reduced seating capacity. Also interestingly, the Padres have said that they aren't done with college football at Petco. Look for them to find some other college game to host in the future - not necessarily a bowl game, but something like the Notre Dame/Navy game that was at Qualcomm a few years back, or the Army/Navy game, or any number of other games.

As you know, we haven't had a Sky Show and/or Holiday Bowl at Snapdragon so we can only make wild guesses. The parking at previous Sky Shows was always a mess due to about 1/3 of the parking lot closed for the fireworks, a large crowd and people just parking in the lot to see the fire works. After a particularly bad experience with the Sky Show parking one year I started using the trolley for them.
I haven't experienced any problems with parking or traffic for Aztec games so far. But I do get to the games early.
The worst seat in Section 108 Row 33 is at the 30 yard line. The best seat is at the 37 yard line. Unless you're in the more expensive box seats in the row.
Here's a link to a 3D map of the seating area which can also show the view from any seat in the stadium.

There was a huge price difference between the seats I selected on about the 35 yard line and the box seats in the same section - those were about double the price. I figured this would be good for the first HB in the stadium and if I don't like them I can pick different seats later. One nice perk of being a "charter Holiday Bowl" member is we get to pick our seats before they go on sale to the general public, so I had literally the entire stadium to choose from. For about the same price point I could have been in the first row of the upper deck on the 50, but the seats I picked look like a good tradeoff. As for parking I'll just have to wait and see I guess. I took the trolley in the last few times it was at Qualcomm and that worked well. I did the same when it was at Petco. I drive back to OC right after the game and really don't want to spend an hour trying to get out of the parking lot because I get home pretty late as it is.
