Transfers are a part of college sports for the foreseeable future. To that end, I want to track if the grass is greener.
Dez Malone - Oklahoma (2md on pre summer depth chart) Davaughn Celestine - SMU (Not Listed) Brandon McElroy - UMASS (Not Listed) Mark Redman - Louisville (1st on pre summer depth chart) Jonah Rodriguez - AZ (Not Listed) Marcus Racliffe - TAMU (2nd on pre summer depth chart) Noah Avinger - UNM (1st on pre summer depth chart) Cooper McDonald - TCU (3rd on pre summer depth chart) Cade Bennet - TCU (1st on pre summer depth chart) Cameron Harpole - ASU (3rd on pre summer depth chart) Zyrus Fiaseu - ASU (1st on pre summer depth chart) Raphael Williams - Pitt (2nd on pre summer depth chart) Drew Azzopardi - UW (1st on pre summer depth chart) Brandon Crenshaw Dixon - Florida (1st on pre summer depth chart)
If I missed someone that landed in D1, let me know and I will add.
There were lots of players that did no land and their journey ends. But what is really striking, the OL is doing very well. I guess it was the backs and coaching.
Cade Bennet - TCU (1st on pre summer depth chart) Drew Azzopardi - UW (1st on pre summer depth chart) Brandon Crenshaw Dixon - Florida (1st on pre summer depth chart)

In 1999 TV Guide listed Eddie at #20 on the all-time best characters list. Now THAT is some accomplishment!

Also, most O-linemen are not big enough and/or ready to start until their Redshirt Sophomore or Jr Year. Thus, you have to keep a very steady flow of linemen your recruiting class otherwise you will have some major gaps (this has been part of SDSUs line struggles over the past few years). I think the P4 programs are now just poaching slightly older linemen from G5 schools as bridges for their younger linemen. We had several young linemen get in game experience and now the bigger programs are poaching them just as they start to really develop.

If the team did well and won a bowl game, their exposure to the next level will be enhanced had they stayed. There's always that possibility of losing the starting position at their new team. Unlikely here, unless it's an injury. If you're good the NFL will find you, wherever you're at.

Currently SDSU only has one lineman on an NFL roster and maybe 4-5 on practice squads, so the odds of them getting into the NFL are incredibly low so you got to get paid while you can.

Would be interesting to see the wording on those contracts/agreements or whatever they are calling them, are they year to year?, season to season?, semester to semester? and do they automatically roll over? Big Dollars have ruined the college football game!

When you think about it, at their age most probably never earned enough to pay taxes to begin with. Is it those schools' responsibility to hire guidance for them?

When you think about it, at their age most probably never earned enough to pay taxes to begin with. Is it those schools' responsibility to hire guidance for them? IMO, since the schools and the NIL payers are supposed to be independent of each other the schools shouldn't have any legal responsibility to provide guidance. As a practical matter a good number probably will. Not that many of the athletes will act on that advice. Since the athletes in most cases won't be considered employees they will receive 1099 forms reporting the payments to the athlete and the IRS. It will be the athletes responsibility to pay estimated taxes during the year and the balance, if any, with their tax return.
Probably many, many of the athletes will be large tax liabilities they can't pay.
