I’ve never been to a road game at Laramie as honestly had no desire to go however I don’t think we’ll be in the same conference with Wyoming in two years so I’m considering going to the road game there in October 12 this year. I understand that War Memorial Stadium is a gorgeous setting and would like to see it before we possibly don’t ever play them again. And maybe do some fly fishing while up there as well. How does one get there from SD? How did you get this pic of me and my buddy during our freshman year ? ---Stan

I went to a game at Laramie about 40 years ago. I must say the fans were very welcoming. But it wasn't a place that I had any desire to revisit.

How does one get there from SD? The big question is would this allow Stan (the Freshman) to enroll as a freshman this year (in the photo above)? Own Transportation? Own lodging? Would he be able to set up in the River Park?

I went to a game at Laramie about 40 years ago. I must say the fans were very welcoming. But it wasn't a place that I had any desire to revisit. I went to a game there in 1978, our first year in the WAC. I was traveling to all the away games with the team back then. I don't know if it was altitude sickness or not, but I came back feeling really bad and depressed. I didn't make a road trip the rest of that year. I even missed a game at Miami in the Orange bowl that I was looking forward to.
I've bad mouthed Wyoming in general and Laramie in particular ever since then. Probably not fair. I do like the Wyoming people and feel comfortable in that culture.

A road trip all Aztecs should experience at least once. I have done it three times.Cowboy fans were hospitable.Once we were invited to join a party in a large RV. Pre-game visit to Bud's Bar for a bit of classic Americana and my first chocolate martini. The University has an excellent Native American museum close to the stadium. We had to fly into Denver, rent a car and make the two hour drive over the mountains.Risk of snow in November. I think they may have strengthened and extended the airport since my last visit and there are now multiple connecting flights from Denver. Making the climb up stairs in the stands to your seats will bring home in a real and personal way how difficult it is to come from living at sea level and move around at 7,500'.Doesn't matter how good a shape you are in ,there is a big variation in peoples ability to function at high altitude. It can be very difficult for some to function at normal levels.I would never voluntarily send my football or basketball team to compete at that altitude.

A little off topic here but still fits in.
Would be nice to see more Aztec fans at home games open up and interact with fans from the other teams. I am not saying that people don't do it but it would be great to see much more of an effort to interact with them. These are the types of thing that pay dividends later with great press, much more exposure for the University, more fans at games, more of a nice destination for opposing teams and best of all other Conferences may take note.
This University needs to do whatever it can to help keep up the momentum they currently have going on with building SDSU into a much Bigger and Better University.
Go Aztecs!

Off topic??? Promoting friendship, civility and common courtesy? Next thing you'll suggest that we not drink to excess and make fools of ourselves? What are you thinking?? This could lead to a more enjoyable and safe sports environment, thus ruining not only Aztec games, but sports as a whole, maybe even lead to the demise of mankind???

I never understood fans wanting to fight with or cuss out other fans over sports rivalries. A little friendly disagreement over the internet is one thing, but have a little respect, especially in person. I know most of us aren't that way, but I see a bit of it at Petco (esp, when the Dodgers are in town) and of course it's really bad at NFL games.

I know most of us aren't that way, but I see a bit of it at Petco (esp, when the Dodgers are in town) and of course it's really bad at NFL games. Agreed. Back in the early 1970s and 1980s when I was traveling with the team to all the away games I never had a problem with the opponent's fans. That was back when we were beating the other teams badly. There weren't many Aztec fans on those trips, and frequently a couple of us would move up into better seats if they were vacant. This really put us in the middle of the opposition. Of course there was some friendly jibes back and forth, but never any issues.
The only time I've had beer thrown at me was at San Diego Stadium for the Charger game when Don Coryell brought his St. Louis team for a game. Even though the Chargers were winning, some fans around us took serious exception to our cheering for Don. That was my first and only NFL game. Give me college crowds anytime. I know others here have had problems with other college fans, but I never experienced it.
