Kid wasn’t on my radar, but certainly seems like he has the type of size and athleticism that fits our program well. Dutch and team getting things going early for ‘25, love to see it.

Nice size. ESPN and 247 have him at #14 in California.
Offers from Nevada, Utah State, Grand Canyon and Yale among others.
I LIKE IT!

I only worry that if a lot of the big schools didn't have him on their radar, now they do. Until some kind of salary cap is designated, I'll always worry about some big NIL $ changing kids' (and parents') minds.

It’s hard to care much about these high school recruit commits until they are on campus and at practice. This is the world we live in now unfortunately.

Suddenly, not quite as worried after reading Zeigler's UT article. www.sandiegouniontribune.com/2024/07/05/sdsu-basketball-lands-first-recruit-for-2025-recruiting-class/Love these quotes from him and his family. His thinking: “I’m not waiting for a better offer than this. I’m not waiting for anything else. This is an amazing program. The coaches really, really want me. Even if somewhere like UCLA offered me, I was so set on San Diego State. That’s how much I want to go there.” Added Lavar: “We have a philosophy in our family: If you know what you want, you go for what you want. We don’t believe in wasting people’s time. He believed it was a great fit for him. We had all our questions and concerns answered. We were on the same page. “For us, it was why drag it on? We don’t want to play games. They really want you, you really want to go to this school, it’s mutual. What’s the benefit of waiting?”

I saw Dutch at the games. I had no idea this is the kid he was watching, but now it makes sense. It was crazy seeing Coach Acker with a Long Beach polo and then Tony with a UW outfit. So many coaches and they come from all over. Kansas, UNC, UCLA, Etc. All the schools show up for these big tournaments and they are all so cool. It is amazing how approachable and easy going the coaches are at these tournaments. I talked to Acker for a good 10 minutes and he was great even with everything going on.

Has a mature body already. Wants to play here and the coaches want him as well. All I need to know. Great to have him commit.
Oh, offer from Yale? Yale doesn't offer dummies.

You can throw in Georgetown and all the boutique smaller NE institutions like Amherst, Williams, Middlbury etc. It doesn't mean that there aren't a whole lot of smart kids in those schools but having attended one doesn't automatically qualify you as "smart".

USC has lots of dumb legacy admissions every year.

It was San Diego State on Saturday night and the Chargers on Sunday.” “I’ve been here my whole life. I want to go (to SDSU) and continue the success of the program. I want to be the guy who came right from the backyard. I can’t wait to be there.” I believe that Simmons believes what he says now the same way Jonson believed it way back then. But a whole lot can change in a year with a 17-18 year-old athlete. 1) A whole lot more $ is offered to them than they ever expected 2) They break up with their girlfriend or want to break up or get dumped. 3) SDSU recruits a similar player 4) They see a movie or read a book or see on TV some place or area of the country that looks intriguing or exciting to them. 5) They argue with their parents and want to get away from them. ETC. ETC. ETC. It happens. Hope Simmons still feels the same when it's time to sign.
