Any estimates on the income the Dragon would generate for this event?

They obviously read my suggestions in the other thread and jumped into action.

I'm kind of surprised. I know the general SDSU fan opinion of the Holiday Bowl is lukewarm. On the other hand it has been a fixture in San Diego for over 40 years now and has always been one of the better non-CFP related bowl games in terms of payout, attendance, and many other factors. I've literally been to every single Holiday Bowl that has ever been played.
As for Petco, I thought it was a fabulous venue for the bowl game. Granted it's a baseball stadium. Whenever you play football in a baseball stadium there are certain things that are less than ideal. That was noticeably true for the Holiday Bowl. At the same time, there was a certain indescribable coolness about watching football in there. As a charter Holiday Bowl ticket holder I got first crack at tickets when it moved to Petco, so I managed to score some pretty nice seats with great sightlines. I do however recognize that at least 50% of the seats probably had less than great sightlines for football. On the other hand, the atmosphere and gameday experience in Petco couldn't be beat. Having the game right downtown where the teams and most of the fans were staying was just awesome. It was party central down there.
I have yet to go to an event at Snapdragon but I'm sure it will also be a great venue for the game. I'll get first crack at seat selection again when the time comes so I'll probably be tapping some of your expertise on the best place to sit. I also feel like a lot of this move is related to the PAC implosion. The Holiday Bowl hasn't announced what it will do to replace the PAC team, but I'm sure getting a west coast participant is a lot less likely now, which means less attendance.

The U-T article mentioned that ex-PAC teams (in addition to OSU/WSU) would be under consideration for one of the participants. I'm assuming though, the ACC will want an actual conference tie-in for them to stay affiliated. But who knows? Everything is fluid these days. Plus, ACC's days may be numbered as well.

I'm surprised they made the move this quickly. If there is going to be a bowl game in San Diego, it needs to be played in a stadium designed for football.
Since the Padres have altered the ballpark to host football, will they try to start another bowl game at Petco?

Bowl games are going to get a shake up or down - as the playoffs start to get bigger
who knows how much ESPN will be willing to spend on the Minor Bowls

It's always nice to have a bowl game in your home stadium that you aren't eligible for.

Agree, the interest and success will be dependent on which level the participants come from. Also don't discount Petco. They may try to one up their venue.

Wonder if expansion of seating permanent or temporary is in the future?

I think we might now be starting to realze the short sightedness of not building at least a 40,000 seat stadium.
