I think we might now be starting to realze the short sightedness of not building at least a 40,000 seat stadium. It can be expanded to 40K for this game if they want to.

What it will be once the 2025 contract expires will be determined if the HB is picked up again by the ACC and whether the big12 or B1G look to pick it up.

No, major soccer is coming , the Wave is drawing better and better , and the Aztecs are going to get better and start drawing bigger crowds (I hope).

Bowl games are going to get a shake up or down - as the playoffs start to get bigger who knows how much ESPN will be willing to spend on the Minor Bowls We don't have to worry here in San Diego. Everyone wants to come to San Diego in December. From my understanding, Snapdragon can add temporary seating to get us over 40K in seating for the bowl game.

I think we might now be starting to realze the short sightedness of not building at least a 40,000 seat stadium. Snapdragon beats the odds because it it profitable. What we have now is even a bit too large for the Aztec FB program. But, if we need to add temporary seating for the Holiday Bowl it can be done. Would you rather have the issues Cal has with financing its stadium (the joke is, they aren't) or have a stadium that adds money to the program? Me, I'm for the latter.

I think we might now be starting to realze the short sightedness of not building at least a 40,000 seat stadium. Sadly, the Aztecs don't need more seats to fill, as they are having trouble filling the seats they do have. Soccer doesn't need more seats, or rugby, or anything else that happens there.

To be honest, if UCLA could build a stadium it wouldn't be much bigger that what we have, and LA has three times our population. Had we ascended to the PAC we might have been able to justify expansion to 40-45K. But when it comes right down to it, attendance for sporting events has declined in the last few years. Money is made via TV, not from attendance. We made a good decision to go with the 32.5/35K stadium as we secured an MLS team that would prefer a stadium smaller than what we built. If we get to the point where the stadium is too small then that will be a great problem to have.

If SnapDragon ever gets to the point of needing to enlarge the North end would be an easy upgrade to add a few thousand seats while also building into the planned Hotel (big conference center) connecting the two structures (just an idea). It would be an easy 2-4 thousand seats to start with.
Like was said before it will be a nice problem to have, looking to expand means things are going good and right now the need for the expanded size is not needed.
With the addition of the MLS and now a bowl game and hopefully a few more events SDSU can make a few more extra payments on the SDSU West build out. This entire site is just such a great project and I hope to see it completely built out in my lifetime.
***Ps-I hope those kids stay off my lawn and they also stop parking those damn cars on my grass.

I realize our eighty Aztecs playing in The Holiday Bowl doesn't bring in the same $ as outside teams but I hope there is a provision that under certain circumstances we get a shot a couple of times a decade or so.

I think we might now be starting to realze the short sightedness of not building at least a 40,000 seat stadium. I think if it was bigger it would have turned off the soccer teams. Losing one or both soccer teams just to get a bowl game would not be wise. Ncaa football is in a flux. No need to go bigger

So how will Holiday Bowel "officials" still choose an ACC vs Pac 12 opponent? There's only 2 P12 teams left - unless they wise up and add MWC - which they'd do the suicide thing first if it really came to taking all MWC teams. Hopefully ,JDW hit the HB committee with a premium price tag to play at Snapdragon - and SDSU gets a large cut of the parking and concessions profits, too.

The HB will be able to select from the P2 and formers P12 members through 2025 and then the contract ends. Which conferences they are able to sign on for the next contract is the question. Will the ACC re-up? They do have Stanford and CAL to consider for a somewhat regional bowl Would the B1G be interested in sending a team for the same reason? Or will ESPN place their properties into their controlled or broadcasted bowls? Only the Arizona Bowl, Sun Bowl, and the HB appear (outside of the CFP) on a network not controlled by EPSN. CW, CBS, and Fox respectively. The HB is in peril. With the advent of the CFP, it took away potential participants for 4 bowls. The P12 imploding suggests that their bowls will be the ones that will be on the cutting block. Vegas (3.09M Viewers) Independance (1.02M Viewers) Holiday (3.51M Viewers) Sun (3.26M Viewers) Vegas(3.1M Viewers) LA (2.48M Viewers) So who survives? I don't know.

I wish that the Aztecs would get a chance to play in the bowl played in our city. I know it would have to be a really good year but you never know. If we are completely
blackballed no matter what kind of year we have then I think I might not even watch or pay any attention.

Yep, this ^^^^^^ Although, with all four of the P4 conferences expanding, more bowl affiliations will be needed anyway, so it might all be a wash.

all the stats listed for Viewers was before the Playoffs were expended
this will be the first year for the new format and so the numbers coming out after this season of playoffs and Bowls should be interesting
there also could be movement of schools after ESPN makes its decision about it's TV deal with the ACC Feb of 2025 that also might affect what teams are invited to the Holiday Bowl and or if it stays ?

There are not any fewer teams in need of bowl games. The Holiday Bowl has been around for over 40 years now and has always been one of the higher payout bowls among the non-New Years Day bowls. I don't expect that to change. The Holiday Bowl is not in peril. It does of course need to figure out its new conference affiliations but that probably won't be clear until the P2 situation becomes a little more clear. Everyone wants to travel to San Diego in December. They will re-up with tie-ins to major conferences like they always have. The Sun Bowl has been played since 1935. UTEP is even working on a proposal to partner with the city of El Paso to make a bunch of improvements to the stadium, mostly for the purpose of the bowl game. It's also for a few non-football events they have at the stadium, but mostly for the purpose of the bowl game itself. The Independence Bowl has been around about as long as the Holiday Bowl. It's much lower on the totem pole in terms of attendance and payouts, but that bowl isn't going anywhere either. The Vegas and LA bowls are relative newcomers, but both are played in brand new, high end NFL venues and aren't likely to go anywhere except up. If any bowl games drop off the list it will be bottom of the barrel ones like the Bahamas Bowl, which wasn't played in the Bahamas this year. But even that one isn't likely to drop off because half of FBS is bowl eligible anymore. I could see maybe one disappearing (ref Bahamas Bowl) because a lot of times you end up with a sub-.500 team playing in it, but that's about it.

At our level if we could average 25k, I think that would be equivalent to, if not more than the TV money.

the San Diego MLS team yesterday had a major signing party for the player " Chucky "( Chooky ) he has played in the Italian and German Leagues and is a member of the Mexican National team - will definitely draw a large amount of fans of Hispanic decent
Add the couple of players from Denmark last week
So attendance for the team has a good opportunity to draw a lot of fans
Would be great if SDSU could form additional connections with the major owners of the team - They numerous connections around the world

Case in point--SD Wave, who aren't winning with regularity this season, and have the 2nd biggest drop in per-game attendance in the NWSL compared to last season (although to be fair, they are still 3rd in attendance this season).
