I say it’s Tony, Marshall, Kawhi and now Xander up there. I've still got Strasburg up there... with Xander definitely closing the gap. What did you say about Xander in that other thread? I seem to remember something about what Xander has between his ears?

Man that was gripping drama, so nerve racking ... but that's what makes this such an even bigger win. When Xander made mistakes, he was able to survive and then come back on the next hole with - not only not make more mistakes - but making some big shots. In the past, any one of the times today he stubbed his toe likely would've been his undoing. We've seen it many times ... but today ... he survived and thrived. I'm SO HAPPY for X, his parents, wife, his entire team. He was overdue, but he finally got over the hump. For awhile, it seemed "inevitable, he'd win several majors. But then implosion after rough patch took him out of every major. I was seriously questioning if he'd ever win a major, if he had that "clutch gene". He showed the last 4 days that he does. For all his successes on the course, financially, in all ways... greatness is defined in golf by winning majors. I think this not only gets the massive monkey off his back ... but will serve him well in future majors. I don't watch much golf - mainly just when Xander is on the leaderboard. And my wife never watches. But we both witnessed the last several holes and I was explaining to her how Xander is an Aztec and he's almost always at or near the lead and just can never hang on for a big win. About ten seconds after he made that last putt and had this euphoric but also relieved look, like a giant monkey was off his back, I look over at my wife and she's crying. She said she was so happy for him, even though she had never heard of him 30 minutes earlier.

I've still got Strasburg up there... with Xander definitely closing the gap. Strasburg was definitely better while an Aztec but his MLB run didn’t last very long because of all the injuries. Recency bias makes me go with Xander. #1 draft pick Greatest baseball prospect of all-time World Series MVP Absolute domination in the post-season Xander is building an impressive resume as well, and with another Major or 2... could land in the #1 slot in my Aztec Mount Rushmore. Time will tell.

Xander’s bank account just grew another $3.33 mil today, I wonder if he would consider donating to the NIL fund…

Xander proved himself today. Many a doubter will claim they were on his bandwagon all along. Guess he dragged your sad Asses along for the ride. Go ahead, let’s hear how you were there for him the whole time. Thank you, X, for a wonderful performance that we will never forget. Aztec For Life.

Xander is now forever part of golf history. The majors are about all that really matter in this sport. It's not easy to win even ONE, and I think he'll win more. Yes, there were a lot of doubters on here. 😒 But since he was the best player in golf without a major, there was going to be some added pressure. I think I heard these comments on the telecast correctly though, that Xander had 12 Top Tens in a major before he won one. (The same number as Ben Hogan, and Phil had 17 Top Tens before he won one.) A ton of first time major winners were in their 40's or late 30's. Xander is just 30.

Ben Crenshaw had 16 Top Tens in Majors before he won one and Freddie Couples had 14. So happy that Xander is no longer in the running for that.

In the wake of one of the all time great Aztecs having their greatest accomplishment... you come on and call out "people"... "bandwagon" people. Just petty and weird. You're trying to call out others for ... whatever it is you're trying to call them out for ... but it really comes off that you're behaving the same as the ones you're calling out. Actually, you're coming off worse IMO as your post reeks of self superiority. I just never get the plethora of people here, on FB, etc. that post crap like that.

There are tons of golfers within striking distance entering day 4, this won't be an easy one to win. I think Xander will need to shoot a 65 or better to earn his first major. Xander shot a 65 and won by 1 stroke. Hell yeah! What a great win!!!

Never has there been a user ID more appropriate for someone than yours For the record, I've been on team Xander since he was at Scripps Ranch High and a classmate of my son's. And it's OK for casual and not-so-casual golf fans to jump on the Xander bandwagon. There's plenty of room and no pre-assigned seating.

I'm a fan of any athlete that goes to SDSU and then becomes a pro. We all want Aztecs for Life to do exceedingly well at the pro level. But, I will admit to wondering about the mental part of Xander's game a few times over the past couple of years. I am a big Rickie Fowler fan as well, 1) because he and I share the same initials, and 2) because he is just a good guy. While I don't share Xander's initials, I can root for him, Aztec or not, because he just seems like a good dude. I love that Austin is on his bag...that's a good story too! But, like Rickie, it has seemed that Xander just couldn't break through. Golf is a hard game. I play every week. I say it is 80% mental. Xander just cleared a huge mental hurdle. Somehow I don't think it will be his only major.

Xander’s bank account just grew another $3.33 mil today, I wonder if he would consider donating to the NIL fund… It is so awesome that Xander finally pulled it off. He is also now #2 in the world. I don't think he will become satisfied after this but there is a long history of PGA Champions winning and then fading away. This major unlike the others has a lot of one hit wonders such as Brooks, Elkington, Toms, Micheel, Beem, Duffner, Bradley, Yang, Kaymer, Walker and Day. That is just in the last 30 years. Hopefully instead this unlocks Xander to many more majors. I'd like to think this will lead to about 8 majors which would be a top 5 career. At only 30 he has like 60 more chances to make history. Go Xander Aztec for Life!

Somehow I don't think it will be his only major. Golf is not only difficult, both mentally and physically, it's also become a huge global sport, maybe rivaled only by soccer to that degree. The NBA comes close when it comes to a rising level of international talent, but golf is much farther ahead in that regard. As a result, the level of competition found at any major tournament is insane. Truly the cream of the cream of the crop. And then things just have to go your way. DeChambeau made a blistering run at Xander. Schauffele should have won this thing in a cakewalk over the final three holes, but DeChambeau's ball on 16 went into the trees, looking for all the world that his run at the championship just ended. Then the trees simply spit his ball back onto the fairway for a perfect lie, which he converted to a birdie. Are you f-ing kidding me? That, along with some tough obstacles that popped for Xander on the final few holes made his win all that more impressive.

Hopefully this puts to rest the commentary that his caddie was holding him back, as some have been saying. His caddie is a huge reason behind his success and deserves props for yesterday as well. Nice payday as well!

The only difference here is that other than Brooks and maybe Day none were in the top ten in world rankings at the time of their wins in the PGA. Xander's has been playing very well for a very long time.
