Tell that to Flynn, Franklin and Thames. Like the NBA couldn't find him at SDSU. It's all about $$$$$. Mark Pope hasn't sent a single player to the NBA in his 9 years as a head coach. Butler's dad already revealed the real reason he transferred. |

Yes, I certainly won't miss myself cringing every time he had the ball and he was under pressure, or when he was at the free throw line. For a guard to shoot that poorly from the free throw line is almost unheard of. What I will miss is his incredible defensive play, along with his energy. Also, the great attitude. |

There are going to be some hard lessons coming the athletes direction. The Universities will eventually adapt and create their own leverage. It may be multiple year contracts with a need for players to buyout of the contract.
In general, the athletes were treated with kid gloves. They were after all just college students.
That veneer is gone, criticism will be sharp and focused. If a player under performs, people won’t care if he is fired.
And as noted above, the players better start working on PR, that’s on them now. What they say may end up hurting their NIL or roster slot. They won’t be able to dodge the press either, the money comes with obligations attached.

It's very noble that people on here value their loyalty so much that they would sacrifice doubling their salary. Not a lot of people would do the same, hopefully that loyalty works out for your guys. Loyalty worked out for Coach Dutcher, Coach Fisher, and Coach Gwynn, but it's not for everyone. It's also not noble. It's a lifestyle choice. Some people find it worthwhile to spend their life chasing down every last dollar, others don't. I'm not judging Butler.Good for him and his dad that that they got what they wanted. Hopefully they still feel the same in twenty years. Just don't expect me to buy it if you're selling that being a San Diego icon and Aztec for Life is worthless. It's a completely different situation for the Coaches than the so called SA's. Fisch was already set for life. Dutch fell in love with SD as did Gwynn. |
