I said he's talented, but Kentucky talented? I don't know. Is that where his dad went? Yes, his jersey is hanging in the rafters there at Rupp Arena. That's what I thought. It'll be interesting to see where he ends up.

What surprised me is that, according to Zeigler, “Richard Pitino is known to want out of New Mexico.” After two years of telling anyone who will listen how awesome that job is, and how incredible the fanbase is? Lol apparently he’s been dissatisfied the whole time. Don’t blame him one bit.

Yeah, he said Coach Acker was a favorite for the Long Beach job. I wonder if they’d bring Hutson back to the bench if a spot opened up? Hutson owns a home in San Diego so naturally he is moving back in less than 3 weeks. Also Greg Gottlieb is already on the WBB staff and has alot of experience. I know for sure Tim Shelton would be back on the next plane to SD if the gave him a full-time assistant job. I don't worry about losing assistant coaches. I would actually encourage David V to take the Utah State job if it was offered to him. Bringing back Coach Hut is a no brainer. I don’t think Utah State goes after Velasquez despite what Ziegler says.

I think Sam Scholl would love to be on our staff also.

Looks like UNM's Pitino may be taking the Louisville head coach job and there's more rumors that Mashburn, Dent and Toppin may go with him. That would kill them for next year. If Louisville waits 5 days, the buyout goes down $350K although I'm not sure that amount of money makes a difference at those schools.

Both Medved and Alford in rumors for the Oklahoma State job. And Rice is rumored to go maybe to Washington State. Possible 2024-25 MWC season scenario: New coaches @: Utah State Boise State Fresno State New Mexico Colorado State OR Nevada
I know Sprinkle came in and kicked ass but more often than not, that doesn't happen. It would more likely assure a lot of Ws in places we didn't do so well this year. But overall it would be really bad for the MWC.

Rice to Wash State would be a good fit. Pitino Jr to Louisville would be interesting on a number of levels. You'd have to think multiple bigger name coaches have told the ville no thank you. Seems like some real heavy lifting is needed to get Louisville back on track.

I thought Dave V was sort of being groomed as the head coach in waiting for Dutcher. This could be his last 5 year contract.

Not much better than the WCC or BigWest. Damn, right when things were really trending up. Those coaches really don't want that 20 game league schedule. 😉

as some schools are learning the players you can bring with you can be as valuable as the coach
USU 's coach brought 2 high quality players with him
Patino could bring some of those guys with him
Same with Rice
Would it ding Coach Dave if he went to another school for a while to assist his growth - learn even more what a HC has to do - then return when Dutcher leaves ? Could make it helpful if he did that and then return .
Understand that the coaches recruit as a group but are there a couple of them that are considered lead recruiters or is that primarily for recruiting HS players ?

I wouldn't be surprised if that is the plan. Watching him during the games it is clear that he is Dutcher's number one assistant. I may be wrong, but I believe that Dave V has been with the basketball program in more capacities, for more years, than any coach or person in any sport in the entire history of San Diego State.

Most capacities... for sure. I think 2nd only to Dutch in total number of years, starting of course as a walk-on player.

I didn't check to see when he started as team manager. I believe he was team manager before he was a walk-on. I may be wrong about that too.

New Mexico seems to have a hard time holding on to good coaches and he is probably quite familiar with Louisville since his dad coached there. Dent and Toppin are very good players, Mashburn honestly is overrated but he is a competent college player.

I don't think Rice will leave Boise State, he has been there a long time and certainly has had other opportunities along the way most likely. Washington State is in the great unknown going forward whereas I have to admit he has made Boise State a force in the Mountain West (regular season only lol) I don't think he leaves for Washington State, maybe for a big money job back East or something, but not Wazzu.
