If you thought this season was a breakout season for the MWC, think again. Instead of this season being a stepping stone for the league to close the gap between the power conferences, we'll likely see both players and coaches using this year as an audition to upgrade to those richer schools. It's Monday after the first weekend of the NCAA tournament, and already we see 3 MWC teams that will likely lose players and/or coaches. This is just the beginning and I predict that we'll see a lot of guys leaving over the next few weeks. USU* Sprinkle is going to WashingtonNew Mexico* Mashburn Jr has entered the portal * Pitino top candidate to Louisville (Pitino will remain at New Mexico) Nevada
* Alford rumored to have interested in OK St job.
CSU * Medved also top candidate for OK St. job

We are seemingly the only stable program in the conference.

Alford to Okie State, best of luck to the Okie State. Alford's had some super talented UCLA teams and only made it to the sweet sixteen. This Nevada squad had some very talented players and chocked the game against Dayton. If they are looking to get back to the dance, he may be your man. But he's suspect in the tournament. JMO.

Alford probably feels like he's done all he can do at Nevada and is ready to go back to the power conference life. I'm not as surprised at Mashburn Jr leaving sice his running mate House is gone. Lobos should be ok with Dent and Washington next season.

The Nevada collapse is a great selling point for Oklahoma State. 😂

You know, I don't know that I have a huge problem with this. The MWC will restock with top baskeball talent...players AND coaches. It develops a certain status. And, one of my favorite mantras is "nothing lasts forever". The other thing about this is that I can say it with confidence that our coach, the best coach in the MWC, is not poachable. Well, at least 95% so.

I have heard Niko Medved's name mentioned in conjunction with the WVU job. They hired Drake's coach yesterday. Other rumors are Mussleman to SMU (ACC) and Wazzu's HC Kyle Smith to Stanford (also ACC) and the ACC is looking to roll back conference games from 20 to 18.

The former WSU coach looks to already be in line to go to Stanford and likely bring some of his guys with him
Would be interesting to see if Musselman would want to jump to SMU ?
What might become of the ACC ?

Perfect, then he should go to Kentucky where he should have gone all along with his considerable talent.

Did Ziegs say one of our coaches is getting poached? Yeah, he said Coach Acker was a favorite for the Long Beach job. I wonder if they’d bring Hutson back to the bench if a spot opened up?

Did Ziegs say one of our coaches is getting poached? Per Ziegler's article today: Chris Acker is considered the lead candidate for Long Beach State and new AD Bobbi Smitheran, who spent the previous 15 years in athletic administration at SDSU. Smitheran reached what was termed as a “mutual agreement” to part ways with longtime coach Don Monson before the Big West tournament, only for Beach to win it and face Arizona in the Big Dance. But Beach was eliminated Thursday, and the fact that Smitheran hasn’t named a replacement given the urgency of the transfer portal is a pretty good indication he’s waiting for someone currently coaching in the NCAA Tournament, like, perhaps in Boston this week. Also Monday, Stanford hired Kyle Smith from Washington State. Dave Velasquez, the architect of SDSU’s top 10 defense, is a logical candidate there as well as the vacancy at Utah State. Pacific also needs a head coach. JayDee Luster was Damon Stoudamire’s lead assistant when they won 23 games and finished third in the WCC in 2019-20 (and things went downhill quickly after they left). “That’s part of wanting to be an assistant here, because you know you can get a head job from this program,” Dutcher said. “You don’t have to be at a power conference school to get a head job. You can get a head job from San Diego State because of the success we’ve had and the reputation we have.” In the meantime, they’ll stay up late watching game film of UConn. Maybe their season ends Thursday. Maybe it ends Saturday. Maybe it doesn’t end until after the Final Four again. For now, they’re still Aztecs. “That’s part of hiring good people,” Dutcher said. “We don’t hire self-promoters, we don’t hire boastful talkers. We hire guys who go to work every day. And then if they’re rewarded for that, that’s a great thing. But they’re not losing sight of the task at hand.”

Hutson owns a home in San Diego so naturally he is moving back in less than 3 weeks. Also Greg Gottlieb is already on the WBB staff and has alot of experience. I know for sure Tim Shelton would be back on the next plane to SD if the gave him a full-time assistant job. I don't worry about losing assistant coaches. I would actually encourage David V to take the Utah State job if it was offered to him.

What surprised me is that, according to Zeigler, “Richard Pitino is known to want out of New Mexico.” After two years of telling anyone who will listen how awesome that job is, and how incredible the fanbase is? Lol apparently he’s been dissatisfied the whole time.
