Don't forget we got robbed of our best team because of covid😡 That was truly one of the most crushing things to go through as a fan - who knows how far that team goes! That team was fantastic, 30-2 and 17-1 in conference. We could have gone to the Final Four that year for sure if things fell right, the talent was there.

One of my favorite items I've repeatedly seen already in this Sweet 16-week is the number of writers and talking heads that have announced that here are no "true" Mid-Majors left. It then reminds everyone about the storied legacies of Gonzaga and SDSU. I know we've been up there for a while but last year's run really cemented us there as long as we maintain this performance. Thanks Fish and Dutch!!!!!!
An example from "The Athletic": "The two Sweet 16 teams that don’t play in power conferences are arguably the two best programs outside them: Gonzaga and San Diego State."

Never went to any games at Peterson Gym but went to quite a few at Sports Arena, including one against a very good Don Haskins UTEP team when Smokey's '84 Aztec team won by 14--good game, good crowd, great atmosphere...but nothing like the electric atmosphere at Viejas. Lol. I was at that game! Me three. I went to a lot of games at the Sports Aroma. Favorite one was the T Gwynn buzzer beater over BYU with my one and only court storming. 2nd fav was a Saturday night win over UNLV and Tark. Crowd was 10K+ and just went nuts when Eddie Gordon threw down a breakaway dunk. Saw a few games at Petersen too. I felt like I was at a glorified HS facility. As for being spoiled, maybe the under 30 crowd is to a degree. For me I never take success for granted and I'm thankful every day for Fisher & Dutcher and everything they've done to elevate the program and keep it at a top 25 level almost every season.

We are still mid major playing in the best mid major conference. Our basketball annual operating budget pales in comparison to P5/6 conference schools and also to Gonzaga. I believe the Zags fly charter everywhere. We typically have 3-4 legs of flying charter a year. So out of 13-15 road and neutral games, 26-30 one way flights a season … we are just over 10%. Gonzaga is a high major playing in a mid major conference. The compliments saying we aren’t a mid major are flattering but false IMO. It is true that the Zags and us are the best 2 programs operating outside Power Conferences. The Zags will continue to be, we need to keep winning MWC championships and winning games in the NCAAT to become a staple as the best mid major

Gonzaga is currently engaged in a 1-5 S16 game with Purdue. Gonzaga is starting to falter, and at the 6:30 mark they've now dropped to being behind by 14. Of course, they have someone like Ike who at least early on held his own with Edey the Purdue giant. That's beginning to change now, though.
Would've been interesting to see if SDSU could've still beaten Zags at this point in the season.
Gonzaga might get close to a 20 point loss if they don't get some of their 1st half mojo back - and fast, but 30+ ? … probably not. Purdue may not comparable with UConn. Or they may be comparable, but we'll see how that plays out if they can both make it to next weekend.
Ike gets two more fouls in a minute and that's the game for him. Probably the season, too.
Gonzaga "only lost" by 12 points, 80–68.

Purdue is for real this season, it is either them or Creighton that might deal UConn a shocker.

MBB 2024/2025 will be interesting.
Five things to look forward to:
1. Miles Byrd & Elijah Saunders growth & leadership 2. Magoon Gwath, how good is he 3. Pharoah Compton, does he break the starting lineup 4a. BJ Davis, PG role take-over 4b. PG transfer (who do we land) 5. Can the entire MW reload? (6 teams in MM 23/24, down to a 1-2 bid league for 24/25)
Have we seen the last of Lamont, Micah, and Reese?
I am pretty sure that Reese comes back in better shape with something to prove.

Last year, Purdue took their No 1 seed for granted. It seems like they understand the importance of showing up every game this year.

Great food for thought. 1) I could see this becoming Byrd's team if he settles down and matures a bit. I love his fire and energy, not to mention his talents as long as he plays a little more within himself. I hope Saunders reflects back on what it felt like to drive to the hoop, make it and get an "and-1" vs UConn. I about choked when I saw him do it. The fact that a 96% FT shooter only shoots 25 FTs in 37 games is ludicrous. Maybe they didn't want him clogging things up towards LeDee but I thought that was one of the biggest wastes of technical skill this year; wasting that good of a FT shooter. Hope he figures that out. 2) Add 25 lbs of muscle by the time he leaves here. 3) Hope he's a warrior and goes hard to the hole. 4) Seeing those little tiny flashes of BJ's skills the last two games is exciting and I think if we get an experienced transfer PG as least 6'3", BJ can play SG, when they play alongside each other. 5) We know for sure of 2 new coaches next year and probably at least one/two more: Medved, Rice, Alford and/or Pitino. Although I think Pitino now needs to stay put for another year, suck back up to his almost-jilted fans and then try and get a better P5 job after he has another good year. Just not sure he can keep both Dent and Toppin. I agree with Zeigler about the %s on who comes back: Reese 80% likely, Lamont 40% and Parrish 25%. Would love to see Waters be our next LeDee and score about 18-20 ppg. That would also open things up down low for Saunders, Goon and Compton. If we only lose Micah, Lamont and Johnson, I'll be relieved. Lamont coming back could be beneficial if he got his offense back but it would significantly change the Guard dynamics.
