I checked out the Yale message board early this A.M. Only 1 post, the poster was impressed wit LeDee and Butler and that was it. Waters, Parrish and Saunders need to make those 3's. A miss will be a crapshoot with that 7' dude in the paint. Offensive rebounds may tell the tale tomorrow.

Oh yeah and Byrd needs to keep his foot on the gas and make those layups or jams on his steals. AZTECS lead was 11 yesterday but it should have grown to 17 and taken UAB out of the game! JMO |

By the way the Yale coach has been there since 1999 - has a lot of seniority among coaches at one spot
The 3 is going to be there all day - do hope that SDSU moves without the ball make them chase and SDSU is willing to pass the ball for the better % shot not take an early 3 - play better team basketball
Bryd could be very helpful on defense where he excels but then needs to play under control for the opportunities - he is about 85% on FT's while Saunders and Waters over 90 % - there is nothing wrong with getting to the FT line more often
SDSU has played over 30 games and is not a good 3 point shooting team - realize that and do what you do best - move pass and get good % shots

the Aztecs have played 35 games they are what they are as a team 31 % on Threes - be realistic about it and set up the game plan accordingly - but please do not expect guys to completely become dependable three point shooters - move without the ball - pass and look for the better % shot - the 3 point shot will be there at the end of the shot clock if necessary .
There is nothing wrong with drawing fouls and making FT's - it also allows SDSU to set up their defense - as noted Saunders and Waters are over 90% - Bryd and DT over 80% while Parrish - Ledee - Pal - are all over 70 % . Butler close to 66%
Saunders while a three point option at maybe 32 % could be very valuable close to the basket for points and rebounds -
point is play good team basketball - especially at things you do well - and not hope player X or Y or Z gets hot

In 34 games Yale has made 225 3 pt shots (35%) or 6.6/ g
In 35 games sdsu has made 236 3pt shots (31%) and 6.7/g.
Auburn out rebounded Yale by 5. This should be even greater against the Aztecs. Yale has a lot of 6-6 guys. The 7 footer will pose difficulties but Pal, Byrd, waters and Saunders should have the advantage. If they have a big game it will be a blow out.
The team below Yale on kenpom is UCI and I think we could be in for a similar game if we let them get going from 3
Finally, fouls called or not called will determine how this game goes.

Time for DT to have another MM run. He had 34 points vs Furman and Alabama, including 6-11 from 3. Same time in the Tournament to turn it on. He's very quietly shot 7-13 from 3 the last four games. Hope he does more of that and less going to the rim.

Hope he does more of that and less going to the rim. I’ve been wanting him to shoot more. To his credit, he’s been letting the game come to him in recent weeks. He’s not regularly forcing drives into the the lane only to be swallowed up by multiple bigs. He seems calmer. |

Quite important to note Yale had 10 steals against Auburn - so very important take care of the basketball
Yes as a team they are about 35% on Threes but they have two players who average over 40% on threes - J. Pou.. (6'6" ) as we saw their top scorer yesterday made was it 6 of them ? he usually takes 7 a game - in addition Mahoney( 6'4") is averaging 45 % - So Defense is going to be a focus for SDSU as always
Size - Wolfe 7 Ft - is normally their top scorer and rebounder - Ledee must stay away from being in Foul Trouble -
Their line up usually goes 7 FT - 6'6" - 6'6" - 6'4" - 6'4" - so their guards will be taller then SDSU - unless Bryd and Waters get some additional PT
so as most usually say avoid TO's - then rebounding - Defense - and play smart basketball - play as a team

would agree key for SDSU is for L and L to stay out of foul trouble -
need Lamont on defense and others as they have good sized guards and wings - and of course Ledee for offense -

They're not deep. Yale's starting 5 all play at least 27 minutes/game.
They're young, 235th in D-1 experience.
They're not a great shooting FT team, they're 254th.
They have two starters that shoot 40% and 45% from 3 but the rest of them are 33%, 24% and 14%.
They're 220th in 3-point attempts.
They lost to both Gonzaga and Kansas on the road by 15.
Poulakidas, the kid who had the game of his life against Auburn, (6-9 from 3) 28 points, is 6'6" so maybe Byrd and Waters will be on him.
We should certainly be able to out-athletic them. Hope this is like the Furman game. A lot depends on how they ref LeDee.
