We didn’t shoot great from three in our run last year but we made enough at critical moments. We aren’t going to become a great three point shooting team all of a sudden. We just need to not be awful and let our D go to work. That’s how we did it last year.

Weren't so ready when State had a week to prepare for Syracuse's zone defense in the first round of 2021 and Buddy Boeheim scored 30 points and easily won 78-62. Or when we gave up a last-second layup to Houston. Or when we had Indiana beat and dribbled the ball off a foot. Or when we had Zona beat and gave up something like a 12-2 run to end the game. Having said that, I think it takes time for schools and coaching staffs to figure out the Madneas that is March. That Houston game still stings. All Pope had to do was go straight up for the block but he moved his body at an angle and Man Bun GRAY torched State for 39 points! Only good thing was that U of M beat Houston on a last second shot the next game. |

Agreed, the defense, shot blocking was a significant factor, but we haven't been even a decent three point shooting team all year, last in the MWC. Can't keep shooting three's every game and only making 2,3 or 4 and expect to win. I'd like not to see State go home like the rest of the MWC team because of poor outside shooting. |

The collapse of Nevada (up 17 with 7:30 left!) has me feeling even more uneasy! That was brutal! MW should be 2-2 or even 3-1 instead we are 1-3.

A timeout should have been called earlier in that stupid multiple possession turnover sequence. It was nevada’s for the taking and similar to Boise they choked at crunch time. Nevada’s choke was far worse. But 2 losses due to choking at crunch time on very winnable games. 1-3 is what we currently deserve. Crunch time matters. Finishing games is important. I am expecting NM and SDSU to win. I think Utah State s a toss up. I will be disappointed if MWC does not get at least 2 wins today. Go Aztecs, go MWC. |

Nevada thought they had things wrapped up when Lucas hit that prayer for a three. They pulled a page from our playbook and went into stall-mode way too early, ending up making turnovers and forced shots the rest of the game. They also failed on defense to track a 49 percent three-point shooter. Arguably worse than our Creighton collapse two years ago.

New Mexico is favored by 2.5 against Clemson in the 11 vs. 6. New Mexico with a NET of 22 vs. Clemson with a NET of 35! Winner gets Baylor (NET 15) vs. Colgate (NET 125) UNM could very easily find themselves in the Sweet 16 the way they played in the MW conference tourney. My old guy memory seems to think that middlin' Teams that win the Conference Tourney collapse in the Dance. They've shot their wad. I hope my old timers syndrome is wrong this time. |
