Just in: UNLV did get a NIT bId and play at Princeton. 6 teams refused to play in the NIT and is not acceptable. Teams refusing to play should forfeit any money from post season games involving their conference members.

Mountain West 6 teams, Big East 3 teams in the Dance. Surprised that UNM is an #11 seed at 26-9, and MWC Champs. not surprised at all. only MWC team to prove they can win at the tourney is SDSU. no matter how hard the conference manipulates to get as many bids as possible,

A while back an under performing SDSU indicated it was not interested in the lessor post conference tournaments.

I think our coaching staff generally holds the NIT in high regard and worth playing in.

You think deciding to skip NIT warrants not getting a share of post season money but it is ok to skip the cbi? What is the rationale?

I was so glad that I changed flights to make the game where Winston Shepard had the only triple double in Aztecs men's basketball history against IPFW in the NIT. Some Aztecs memories were advancing to the NIT Final Four twice. Making the NCAA title game is the best highlight. The players and fans earned one more game. Lesser tournaments motivate a team to go to the NCAA tournament the next season. Happened for the Aztecs in the NIT in 2008-09 and then NCAA tournament in 2009-10.

I really enjoyed the NIT games in Viejas over the years. Obviously, you want to be in the Big Dance, but if you fall short, it's fun to have some postseason games at home.

I honestly don't care about the post season money hypothetical - I was simply pointing out that you were drawing a false equivalence between SDSU turning down the CBI (or whatever it was) and the six schools that supposedly turned down the NIT. The NIT absolutely has a higher profile than the other non NCAA tournaments - it's why we turned down one and have never turned down the other (in the Fisher/Dutcher era at least - quite possibly never though)

In that context, the tournament is not relevant (or at least I do not see a difference).
