Unless Sale was sandbagging it for today, and he actually feels great. I understand that he hasn't pitched in awhile, but the adrenaline will be flowing through him, and that may produce a good/great outing. I sure hope not. As someone who has suffered from back spasms, I can tell you no amount of "adrenaline" can help you overcome them, completely debilitating. Sale's not an ass. If he says he's got a problem I'd tend to believe him. Last year he broke his wrist while riding his bike to lunch. Probably preventable, but hardly predictable. Very apologetic to both the team and BoSox fans. This injury - unless it's from overuse, could hardly be either predictable or preventable. Just another tough break for him.

Yes, I've had them, but maybe you missed it where I said IF he's sandbagging it, which I highly doubt, and he actually feels great. If he's not, and he does have back spasms, then yeah, I know all about the difficulties of it. The adrenaline point was made in speaking about the fact that he hasn't pitched in awhile, and if he's feeling good.

Yes, I highly doubt the team is not telling the truth, but I have seen it happen many of times where all of a sudden the player got healthy. Like I said, I doubt that's the case here.

Well, now it can be told. Sale's left off the Wild Card roster. www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/41552529/braves-leave-chris-sale-roster-wild-card-series-vs-padresDoesn't mean he won't be back, just not here. Looks like maybe Atlanta will play the Johnny Anyarm Wholestaff card today. Given the Padres 2024 history against unknown pitchers …

Can't wait!!!

Who do you have advancing to the next round? I got Tigers, Royals, Brewers, and Padres.

21 year old former #2 prospect for the Braves, spent most of the year in the minors. Struggles with throwing strikes sometimes, but has quality stuff when he's on. Only one postseason appearance, came last year against the Phillies. Allowed three home runs.

Not to take away anything from the Braves and I'm not saying this is going to be an easy series, but I think it's safe to say Pads dodged a major bullet with the Mets not getting the 5-seed. They are en fuego right now, up 8-4 in the top of the 5th and still batting with bases loaded.

Last game of the WS - if it goes the distance is more than a month away… think about that. Whole lotta baseball left.

Well, that let Atlanta know what they're up against.
King strikes out the side and after Arraez gets his first hit of the game, Junior takes his first pitch from Johnny Anyarm and deposits into the second deck at 113 MPH

Looks like a real Bummer coming in… Padres 3–0
Keep rackin' em up.
King's gonna K9 'em tonight - and he just blew through that.
The Kevin Brown stats (16K) in 1998. I'd forgotten about that one.
He carried the team.

Dominant game by King and BP. Atlanta got rocked.
Win tomorrow and earn some extra rest.

He carried the team. This team has a better bullpen then in 98 - and better starting pitching. Brown, Ashby, Hitchcock, Hamilton vs. King, Cease, Musgrove, Darvish - close but I like our depth more, even though Brown was unhittable in 98. Hoffman, Wall, Miceli, Sanders, Boehringer vs. Suarez, Scott, Adam, Estrada, Morejon.... and then even Hoeing and Matsui, an embarrassment of riches. If any game goes into extra innings, undoubtedly it favors us. We have such incredible bullpen depth. I would say that the lineup is of similar strength to 98: Gwynn, Vaughn, Finley, Caminiti, Hernandez, Joyner, Veras, Gomez vs. Tatis, Profar, Merrill, Machado, Higgy, Arraez, Cronenworth, Bogaerts
