Yep.
Make sure everybody returns to San Diego in the same shape they were when they left, keep away from the BP, finish the regular season, and buckle up for the next series.
Has there ever had to be a possible DH to decide the end of the season's final standings (at least in the WC era)?
Should be interesting to find out how tomorrow eventually shakes out.
If Mets win the first game, Atlanta will be forced into elimination mode and have to start their best pitcher left to try to win the second game. That'll leave the tank relatively empty, even if they can win the second game.
AZ is completely dependent on the other two teams at this point. Not a great place to be sitting and waiting - even though they made it interesting by winning today (or maybe it was the Padres who wanted to make things interesting by losing today).

I think it's unlikely the Diamondbacks make it in. If the Braves win the first game, they are in (so they will rest their players for the second game). If the Mets win the first game, they are not only in, but they also get to play Milwaukee instead of us if they lose the second game. The winner of the first game will rest their players for the second game, and so I think the most likely outcome by far is a split of the final two games.

I'll be glued to the TV watching that first Mets game, that's for sure.

I wonder if the Braves save Chris Sale for the second game, and if they win the first game, have an expendable arm pitch that second game instead and use Sale on Tuesday. But if the Braves drop the first game, then Sale will have to be used in the doubleheader.

Keep games like this in mind when you critique the Padre bullpen.

Touchdown, and the extra point is GOOD, unfortunately. 7-6 Braves.

This game is insane. Exactly the type of emotional up and down you'd want as a Padre fan.

Absolute best case scenario for the Padres. Sale has to pitch game two to ensure the Braves make it in, they churned through the bullpen (although nobody outside of Johnson threw a ton) and now have to start Fried tomorrow, in all likelihood.

Sale hasn't looked 100% lately, so that's going to be an interesting story to follow - coming right up.
When a team MUST win, there's a bit of a different mindset - and both teams will be physically and emotionally exhausted tomorrow.
Sometimes that really matters, sometimes it doesn't…
The Padres will soon know who to prepare for tomorrow.

Sale scratched with back spasms.

Just saw that. Kind of thought something like this might've been kept on ice - hasn't pitched for almost two weeks. Maybe the back issue contributed to the drop in his velocity over the last few games that he was in …Will be interesting to see if he recovers from his "back spasms" before tomorrow's game (if they manage to win this one). I would doubt it, but stranger things have happened. They could come into the WC with Fried and Sale. That'd be interesting, too. But for the moment, Atlanta is on the ropes.

Yes, good chance he's going to "feel much better" tomorrow.
