Manny giving Solano the scouting report on Flaherty after scoring a run.
Right back in the game. 2–1 Padres.
And then, Cease does what he must do after all of that … takes the doyers out 1-2-3.

Phillies have clinched a first round bye, so only one of those spots remains.

Will be interesting to see if Cease comes out for another inning. The 4th was not a good one. Someone's figured out what he's got - and not got - tonight.

Estrada on the hot seat right now - but he put himself there. Now he's gonna have to get out of it. Merrill just gave Estrada's effort a massive boost. But that will be all for Estrada tonight. And guess what … Yep, it's Moron 'to the rescue' - and as expected, he's the arsonist, not the fireman. … don't hate the player, just his consistent mediocrity. Comes out for the 7th and immediately gives up a double. GRRRRRR.

Arraez is obviously in pain, and he's not getting better by being out there every day. There are options now that they're in. I get that they now need to ensure home field advantage, but he's gotta be rested before post season.

Winning the West is essentially out the window, now it becomes setting up the rotation and resting some of the top end bullpen arms.

That's basically a formality at this point with how Arizona is playing. One loss takes them out of the running for the 4 seed. If the Padres don't lose out, they will be the 4 seed. Home field really doesn't motivate me, though. All about matchups.

And yes, you absolutely can rest some guys in the bullpen at this point.

Probably the Mets, but a lot depends on their series against Milwaukee and what kind of shape their pitching is in after the Atlanta makeup, provided both games get played. There's very few scenarios mathematically where those games are not relevant. Arizona would have to be fully eliminated.

Scott, Adam and Morejon have been used way too much in the last few weeks.

Scott and Adam didn't throw yesterday. You need Scott, your best lefty, against Shohei today. Just only use him for Shohei, Betts, Freeman. Adam is good to go, he pitched on Tuesday 1 inning, and a third of an inning on Saturday. Morejon 100% agree, he should not be pitching today or tomorrow - his usage has been pretty high. If you can get a good outing out of Musgrove this is less of an issue. You can go to Matsui against the Dodgers 8 and 9 hitters + Shohei, although using him against Shohei, Betts, Freeman scares me (personally).
