Merrill's just on fire right now. Can't be stopped.

I'm originally from St. Louis but been out here for 44 years. For decades the Cardinals have been good and the fans appreciate it. They have been dubbed "the best fans in MLB" by a variety of announcers and by the St. Louis fans themselves. Mostly they get that because they cheer good plays and players from both teams. But the truth is, they show up when the Cardinals win and bitch when they don't. Take a look at the paltry crowd with the Cardinals around .500. The fans are spoiled and aren't any better than any other place when their team is winning. The real example has always been the Chicago Cubs. They lost for decades but fans kept showing up. Maybe they don't want to see Tommy Pham either. Especially not outside a nudie joint.

Vasquez needs to be more careful on those 0-2 pitches. They're too fat.

Got to pull Vasquez. He is leaving way to many pitches over the plate. He's lucky to have only given up two runs so far.

Ho Hum. Merrill does it again. Literally and figuratively on fire right now. Unreal.

Vasquez went 6 innings. Didn't think he could do that the way he started.

Vasquez went 6 innings. Didn't think he could do that the way he started. Yeah, he was playing with fire, but really settled down.

The BBWAA writers still have Skenes in front of him...but the gap is closing.

Padres signed former Rockies catcher Elias Diaz to a minor league deal. Apparently, he is eligible for the postseason, should the Padres need him.

Campusano better be looking over his shoulder because Diaz is a Major League hitter. To be fair, Diaz hasn't hit much the last 2 months, but he is cheap insurance at the position.

Today, Kevin Acee said (in "Tidbits") the Padres haven't been 18 games over .500 since the end of the 2010 season.
Which is incorrect. They were 18 games over on September 27, 2022.

I was working in SF at the time and talked a lot of smack when the Pads were rolling earlier in that season. I went to that game 162 at AT&T after the Pads won the previous two games to tie the Gs for the division. Pads offense went MIA (4 hits) in the 3-0 loss. ooft. I learned my lesson: don't talk smack until the big and beautiful lady sings.

Campusano better be looking over his shoulder because Diaz is a Major League hitter. To be fair, Diaz hasn't hit much the last 2 months, but he is cheap insurance at the position. Even with not hitting much for a couple months, he's still hitting .270 compared to Campusano's .231.
