Waldron's pitches weren't as nuanced as usual - maybe the weather. But he only gave up a few runs today. Padres couldn't get to Winckowski besides soft contact. He Pwn3D them. Yeah, Waldron kept us in the game. The pitching staff pitched well enough for a win. Having said that, I'm happy with the 2 out of 3 there and the overall way we're playing.

Agreed, but it doesn’t make it any more likable. I dated a woman from the Boston area for eight years and after a while, I found myself even rooting for the damn Yankees. It was borne out of a terrorist attack in which three people, including a child, died. Thanks, I know what it was born out of. It happened 11 years ago and the towers fell 23 years ago. Both were horrible and devastating to any and all involved but that doesn’t give cities the right to use that call to arms in the midst of relatively meaningless(in the big picture) sports events. I still will root hard against anything Boston.

I'd argue that if a "Boston Strong" representation was needed, then the Boston Massacre (1770) might actually be a more meaningful "Boston Strong" event as it sparked the Revolutionary War which followed it. A revolutionary era flag representation, however, might've set off too many political alarms in Beantown.

How long do they keep trotting Peralta out there? He's hitting .207 for the year and .154 the last two weeks. In his 13 games played in the OF, he doesn't have an error but watching some of the times he's played out there, it's not like he has the speed or quickness to get to a lot of balls.
I remember when Larry Bowa led the league in fielding and even got a couple Gold Gloves. But Dave Conception with the Reds was a much better fielder and a big range advantage over Bowa. In 1976, Conception played 50 fewer innings than Bowa but had almost 150 more chances. Bowa could catch it when it was near him but couldn't really "go get it" when it wasn't. I see Peralta like that in the OF.
He was a good hitter till about 4 years ago and hasn't done very well since. This is the 4th team he's been on in that time. Let's move on please.

I completely agree. I've wondered the same. The guys an out waiting to happen. Let's find someone else.

The problem is that someone is still hoping for the Peralta that clobbered the Padres when he was a Dodder and a D-Back. He was a gold glover and a silver slugger - but that version of him is infrequently seen now. He's a hole filler, and like many of them, he is probably just one more injury away from the glue factory.

Cease is getting lit up - now 3–0 Rangers. Over 40 pitches through 2 innings. Padres hitters not looking ready for Eovaldi who doesn't look that great so far tonight, either. He actually grew into the game and only gave up one hit. As opposed to Cease, Eovaldi hit his spots.
Well, another of Cease's low performing ballgames coming up. Now 5–0, another HR. He's become a real crapshoot when he's on the mound. Now up to 60 pitches with no outs in the 3rd.
I remember when he was going to save the rotation, too. When he's good, he's great. When he's not, he really gets lit up and just sucks.
Now 7–0.
Padres one hit, some dude named Johnson… one more hit after that. A 2-hit loss.
Bad game all the way around. Not a good way to start the series. Mazur tomorrow, maybe something will click.

Profar and Junior both headed to the ASG as starters.
Mr. Totally Irrelevant - Will Smith? Not starting. Who's relevant now?

Mazur didn't hold the lead for long. And now they're behind.
Just gotta find someone else to start if they are really serious about contending for a WC berth. Pitching 4 inning games isn't cutting the proverbial mustard in MLB. And tomorrow's a day game, so this will stretch the BP.
And while they're at it, David Peralta is basically worthless at the plate anymore. At least until I posted this. LOL Just put up the go ahead runs. And then they pinch hit for him with Johnson. SMH
Good tenacity tonight. All the games they failed to win when they were close last season, and this year it's almost flipped.

Really happy for Peralta. The consummate pro. It's about time!!! Sometimes just getting that first HR, or game winner, or whatever can turn a player around. Achievement unlocks more of them, hopefully. He's in the line up again today. They've gotta have someone solid in the line up and in RF as long as Junior's out. Johnson ain't really that guy. Croney getting the day off, Merrill batting 3rd.

I remember when the Padres pounded Scherzer in game 1 of the 2022 WC in NY, 7 runs in 5 innings. Hope they get that Scherzer today. Doesn't look like it so far, though.
I'm OK with watching a pitcher's duel today as long as the Padres come out on top.

Just another day at the office for Profar. 2-3 with a home run off Sherzer, and throws a guy out at home. What a way to cap off an All Star Year!!!

I know it's been said many times over, but what a pick up getting Solano. 3-4 today with two doubles. Love it

Had to be a very frustrating loss for Texas, they made several spectacular plays today, and really did nothing to lose - but so did the Padres. Scherzer wasn't overpowering but he was matched by King almost pitch for pitch, two holds and a save being the difference today. Yesterday and today were the kinds of games the Padres lost time and time again last year, but this year they're winning them. Back to 5 over .500 …
Hopefully, LA loses their game tonight that'd get the Padres a half game closer to first. Maybe SF can beat Atlanta - that'd get them a little closer to Atlanta for 1st seed WC.

What are we, 5th or 6th in driving in RISP? What a turnaround.
King has been magnificent. So stoked for him. He's a really good guy. Lots of good guys on this Padres team. Makes it easier to root for them. All of this without Tatis who was "picking it up" big time before he got hurt. Machado also, even though there was a post on here that said those two were not likely to "pick it up" again this season, even though it's early, Tatis is way too talented to say that, and Machado is/was playing hurt. This has been fun so far.

Yes, they're not taking the approach of looking at more pitches. It's really done wonders.
