Defense hasn’t been the problem at SDSU. Aztecs have a well established defensive system, so why not bring in the offensive minded HC and keep the defensive staff intact? Because it seems the defense regressed quite a bit this season, so many folks (well, at least me) are worried that the current defensive staff might not be as good as previous staffs... Did the defense regress? Or was SDSU’s defense more a victim of an offense that couldn’t convert on 3rd down or score any points?

Good Lord he's awful. Sanders benched him during the season for his horse**** play calling. Wicker is incompetent. Could you be any more uninformed?

I'm thinking about things like poor tackling & execution (blown coverages), even in the first half of games, which shouldn't be massively affected by a bad offense that can't stay in the field.

One more note, 4 out of the 5 years at Kent State, the defense was 112, 116, 121, and 108 in total yards. The one year they were inside the 100 they finished 79. So just want to make sure all the bored season ticket holders don’t like boring winning, please be sure to renew if we lose 49-45 in exciting late night games. Defense is not just having a good DC it’s a DNA and cultural mentality. You have to practice it everyday with a tough line of scrimmage mentality. It’s difficult to create that mentality with wide open offense throwing the ball 30+ times a game. Case in point is USC which has talent but the offense mentality kills creating defense mentality The Luginbill Era Reboot? We score fast and in bunches, get our defense gassed by the 3rd quarter and endure another 52-52 point shootout? If it fills the seats, you gotta do what you gotta do. Oldie Out That's a valid point if you assume Barry Lamb was a good DC. He wasn't.

Bring in Kyle Turley to run the offensive line and assistant head coach. Let's bring some fire to recruiting. La Roi Glover to run the Dline. Get people talking.

When he committed he was going to reclassify 2024 which is what we wanted. He changed his mind and is still a 2025. And Lewis was not involved

Not who I envisioned the Aztecs hiring, but it makes sense.
The good news is there is still a core of talent on the defensive side of the ball.
The offense obviously needs a complete reworking, especially the OL. I’m interested to see what Lewis can do and who he brings in….hopefully the days of running it up the middle three consecutive plays with a 165lb RB are done.

If it is Lewis, and it sure looks like it is from the volume of the reporting, it's an interesting hire.
Less risky than Chuck Long by a longshot, but still a bit of a gamble since he doesn't have any West Coast ties.
Let's see who we get as coordinators and position coaches. I'd still like Danny Gonzales as DC, but it's going to be up to Lewis.
I'm not thrilled with the hire, but I'm not upset with it, either.

Perhaps but the transfer portal is hanging above this program. Who knows what the current players are thinking. Already at least 3 have entered portal. I’m excited to see a high flying offense for sure and hopefully the defense is good

So, how long before this board is lighting up with, “Fire Sean!” Seriously, let’s give the guy three years to make the team “his” before bringing out the torches. Good luck, Sean. Go Aztecs! Three years?? If we are successful sooner he won’t last that long. But I’m OK with that though if he can turn this around.

I think our QB situation will improve dramatically by next year. It can't be any worse.

They ran the ball a ton in 2022 and 2021. The run is set up by the short passing game to the edges. It's not my cup of tea. This is a meh hire for me. I'm not angry but at the same time I am not excited. The best you can say is that he took a doormat at Kent State and turned them into a 500 club. We shall see how it goes. Who says he has to do the same here? At Kent State you're just trying to survive, you gotta do what you gotta do. Colorado went vertical a lot this year until everyone figured out their oline was the worst in the country.

It regressed dramatically The previous two seasons got a tremendous pass rush without much blitzing. This season required blitzing to put any pressure on the QB. Coverage was worse. There's no NFL guys on this year's back 7. And the tackling was the worst since Hoke took over

I'd imagine that Bill O'Boyle will be our OL coach since he was the OL coach at Colorado and Kent State. Will he take anyone else from Colorado? I thought the CU offensive line was one of the worst in the country? Likely not his fault. Did the best with what he had.

I wonder if he wears headphones and loves to use the flanker screen on every play? Oldie Out Will he scamper up and down the sideline like Luginbill?

I don't profess to know much about him but I do like two things.
1. He is young and energetic and could bring a whole new spirit to the program. 2. He is an offensive guy who hopefully will bring in a more exciting style of offense like SDSU used to be known for. Throw the friggen ball all over the place, that is SDSU Football. We need butts in the seats and 200 yards of offense per game isn't going to cut it.
So I am optimistic about this hire although the cupboard is pretty empty as far as what he is taking over.
