One more note, 4 out of the 5 years at Kent State, the defense was 112, 116, 121, and 108 in total yards. The one year they were inside the 100 they finished 79. So just want to make sure all the bored season ticket holders don’t like boring winning, please be sure to renew if we lose 49-45 in exciting late night games. Defense is not just having a good DC it’s a DNA and cultural mentality. You have to practice it everyday with a tough line of scrimmage mentality. It’s difficult to create that mentality with wide open offense throwing the ball 30+ times a game. Case in point is USC which has talent but the offense mentality kills creating defense mentality Totally get the point... it's a reason why I think getting Gonzales or Arnett would be huge. Guys who have already built/managed that culture of defensive toughness at SDSU. Still it's hard to totally compensate for the undeniable overall cultural emphasis on offense, but I think those guys would do it better than anyone else. Whether or not we stick with the 335, we have to build out depth on defense.

Bring in Kyle Turley to run the offensive line and assistant head coach. Let's bring some fire to recruiting. La Roi Glover to run the Dline. Get people talking. Former NFL Pro took Nick Barnett over Del Norte HS Football as Head Coach this year. The school has never done anything in football prior to this year and now is playing in the prestigious CIF State Playoffs. Point being that I like what you are cooking as far as guys like Turley or Glover or other former Aztec studs being involved or at least more visible around the program.

Did the defense regress? Or was SDSU’s defense more a victim of an offense that couldn’t convert on 3rd down or score any points? I'm thinking about things like poor tackling & execution (blown coverages), even in the first half of games, which shouldn't be massively affected by a bad offense that can't stay in the field. Yes, especially about the tackling. We were a bit young in the backfield so I can understand mistakes there. But, if you can't tackle then I don't care what scheme we are using.

So, how long before this board is lighting up with, “Fire Sean!” Seriously, let’s give the guy three years to make the team “his” before bringing out the torches. Good luck, Sean. Go Aztecs! Three years?? If we are successful sooner he won’t last that long. But I’m OK with that though if he can turn this around. Comparisons to Jerry Lewis will certainly come with his very first "misstep"…

Colorado has lost 2 QB commits recently. Do we dare to dream?? You may have a shot at O'Neil, but probably not.(edit. Scratch that. Good chance he follows Lewis) I'd hate for it to happen - but maybe he brings our QB2 Ryan Staub with him - big upside and you'd be happy. I've only read this one page - don't have the time. Wanted to stop by and congratulate you guys if this ends up getting done. I think he'll kill it at SDSU. You guys should have been dominating the MWC forever and I'd put money on Lewis getting you there. You're going to like the way he talks and presents himself. As for what happened at CU. He's not fully to blame for the lack of adjustments when defenses figured him out. He needs a running QB in his offense. He doesn't really use the TE and it hurt with how piss poor our OL was. And yes, I put a lot of that on O'Boyle the OL coach who brought in a lot of that OL. Don't put much stock in the difference in the numbers. Start of the season vs. lesser competition and not having tape vs. having tape. Don't have the time to say too much - bottom line. I am a Sean Lewis fan and love the hire for you guys. I'll tune in going forward because you're going to be a fun program to watch. He insisted in bringing O'Boyle with him to CU, assuming it's going to happen here too though. But shouldn't be a deal breaker or get you guys too wound up IMO. Appreciate your good wishes, but can you really heap that much blame on O'Boyle after just one season. Rebuilding CU was going to be a 3-year job at best.

But Lewis would seem to trust him, and they did a good job together at Kent State... so it makes sense to me. But, coming here on lateral move for less money? He comes here to be OC and Oline. He was making 850-900k at Colorado. The 2.7m number was for the three years in the contract.

Sean Lewis vs Tony White. Any questions?

Really intriguing hire. Not down on it, but not rushing out to buy season tickets either. Would love to see the program stick with the 3-3-5 on defense though. Also, I think Marion probably would of been the guy if Lewis said no, not Tony White.

We're talking about O'Doyle, but it appears he and Lewis are tied at the hip and doubtful Deion or their fans want him back. Nice thing about the way Lewis is leaving CU, he may not be uncomfortable trying to steer some of his recruits to state. Bit of a reach I suppose as they would have to be definitely coming because of him as they would likely want to be in a P4 program.

The run is set up by the short passing game to the edges. It's not my cup of tea. This is a meh hire for me. I'm not angry but at the same time I am not excited. The best you can say is that he took a doormat at Kent State and turned them into a 500 club. We shall see how it goes. Out of curiosity, Who would you have preferred and why? He's got HC experience which was on of the big boxes we needed to check (in my opinion). Also, losing boring football is what made our crowds diminish. We needed an explosive offense to generate excitement again in SD regarding the program. Tony White may have been a good hire as well, but he definitely would not have rejuvenated fan support. At least not initially and I don't think any defensive minded coach would have. This hire will at the very least, bring some excitement to our program again...think mid 90's when we had amazing offenses, but still lost games (or tied 31 - 31 or 52 - 52!). We had big crowds and people were talking about the program. That's currently not happening but it will with this guy. Fair question, i don’t have a name but a preference. I wanted to keep the focus on Defense. I have never been on the offense will fill the seats bandwagon. I would have been happy with Tony White or another defensive minded coach who would have brought in a pro set offense. An offense that we could have utilized the existing offensive talent that could yield more balanced scoring and kept the defensive identity. This new offense will require more edge talent than what we have and will take a while to implement. I am not banging my show on the desk mad but I’m not giddy either. I’ll see how it goes and give the man due time to implement his program.

We don't have those pieces on the perimeter at the moment. We are going to need to go hard for some receivers and QB. But as a WR or QB do your ears not perk up when you see the offense he runs? I think we need a better offense, it my preference would have been for a modern pro set offense. But we shall aeee how his version of the beer and shoot works here in San Diego. Hopefully the fan base gives him time to build his program. Because this hire requires time, there may not be immediate success. JMO.

So can we expect a similar one year change? Would be nice:
In 2022, CU ranked bottom 5 in CFB in PPG (15.4) & YPG (281.3).
In 2023, when Lewis was calling plays, CU avg. 32.1 PPG & 408.6 YPG.

Just wanting to understand how you define, modern pro offense.

If it is Lewis, and it sure looks like it is from the volume of the reporting, it's an interesting hire. Less risky than Chuck Long by a longshot, but still a bit of a gamble since he doesn't have any West Coast ties. Let's see who we get as coordinators and position coaches. I'd still like Danny Gonzales as DC, but it's going to be up to Lewis. I'm not thrilled with the hire, but I'm not upset with it, either. His OC at Kent State, Andrew Soder, left his job as TE coach at Minnesota yesterday.....

Good Lord he's awful. Sanders benched him during the season for his horse**** play calling. Wicker is incompetent. Could you be any more uninformed? Hmm, not sure, is stupidity a sin?
