That's not entirely true. Hamas has controlled the Gaza Strip since 2007. A majority of Palestinians support Hamas. Hamas was founded during the first Palestinian uprising in 1987 by Palestinian activists connected to the Muslim Brotherhood, which has origins in Egypt. They are opportunistic, sure, but Hamas themselves are saying the motivations behind this attack are dissatisfaction with Israeli policies and the treatment of Palestinians in the occupied area, coinciding with the expansion of Israeli settlements. A lot of this has to do with disputed territory. I'm aware of all the history regarding Hamas, but you lost me when you started basically quoting Hamas. I don't believe a word they say. Just as Biden said, don't be fooled by their supposed interest in the territory. They hate Jewish people, period, and are incredibly ruthless. That doesn't change the facts. You're calling this an attack of opportunity, but it was planned for a long, long time. What we should be asking is who the state actors are and how they got the intelligence in the first place.

Trump was very adversarial towards Hamas, ISIS, Ansar Bayt ect. The Biden Administration has had a lighter touch, deciding to give peace a chance to work, relaxing sanctions ect.
If I were President Biden, I would be furious with the betrayal of his benevolent peaceful policies, and his speech today pretty much reflected that, even though it was a couple of days late.
I believe we need to be on the lookout for similar activity on our own soil. We have had “relaxed” security on our Southern border for 2+ years, allowing whomever to spill into our neighborhoods unchecked. It’s not just about families of Hondurans, Nicaraguans or Venezuelans coming into the USA, God bless those people as they just want to be a part of the American success story, but the uncontrolled sleeper agents who are sneaking into country ready and able to blow something or someone to kingdom come.
The relaxed security on our border is a political policy designed and supported by weak people. For our country’s security, our borders need to be secured.

I most certainly am not calling this an attack of opportunity. I know it was planned for a VERY long time. You're believing what Hamas is saying as facts, and I'm saying that's ridiculous. You can't believe ANYTHING they say. They hate the Jewish people for a variety of reasons. Hopefully, the actual facts of how they did get the intelligence will come out as quickly as possible.

I'm not believing what they say as fact, I'm saying that this is a greater extension of a conflict that has raged for a long time, as I've said multiple times now. A multi-pronged invasion tactic here screams "more to the puzzle" than just attacking Jews.

The 9-11 attackers didn't walk across the border..in fact trump loves Saudi. How bout Boston Marathon bombers? Of course the second worst terrorist act in America was by a couple pissed off right wingers...led by Timothy McVeigh....who in his trial said he listened to rush Limbaugh on his long drives.

Hamas is just a ruthless, vile organization that went door to door looking for Jewish people at home, people at a Concert for Peace, and then slaughtered them. I don't think the territory issues come into play much with them. They just want to maim, and kill just for their hatred, etc..... You say that you don't believe everything Hamas says, yet you post their quotes as if you do. Which is it? Why post them, at all, if you can't believe what they say?

It's pretty disgusting what Israel is doing in Gaza right now. Cutting off food, water and gas to the Palestinians. Bombing the crap out of them, killing hundreds of them.
If Hamas is a Terrorist organization, then this Israeli government is Fascist. It's truly sickening that those are elected officials doing that to innocent civilians in Gaza. Israel should be forced to leave Gaza, what they are doing is barbaric and no better then Hamas.

If somebody slaughtered your relatives down the street, you might think differently. What is Isreal supposed to do? If they don't go in there and decimate hamas and their weapons, this will happen again in 6 months. Remember the stated goal of hamas is to destroy Isreal. What do you do with an adversary like that? Hamas strategy is to hide fighters and weapons within civilian enclaves. They don't care a bit about their own people doing this. This will be ugly, but if Isreal is to survive, they need to go in and destroy as much as they can...while (hopefully) avoiding too many civilian deaths. If Isreal stands down and goes "light" it will be even worse down the road.

The fact that Hamas knew that their decision to strike first like this was going to have dire consequences on innocent Palestinians, is no surprise.

The US needs to withdraw support for both of these countries until the blockades end. What is Hamas supposed to do? They have been blockaded by Israel and Egypt since 2007. 80% of the people in Gaza live in poverty as a result of the blockades. Clean water is only available for 5% of the population. Palestinian families have been fractured and cut off from one another as a result of the restrictions. Look at what Japan did after we embargoed their oil. They staged Pearl Harbor. Look at how much worse off Hamas and the Gaza strip is, then Japan was in that situation. This petty bull$#!+ has gone on for far too long, and the US is culpable as well for funding Israel while allowing Israel and Egypt to choke Gaza.

My thoughts are that Israel and Egypt have blockaded Gaza since 2007, cutting off trade and the movement of people, in order to hurt the 2 million Palestinian people that live on the Gaza strip. Hamas's actions are a result of that blockade. What those countries have done to the Palestinian people over the last 15 years is horrible. 95% of people in the Gaza strip can't even get clean drinking water. 80% live in poverty as a result of the blockade.

You could argue that what Israel and Egypt have done is an act of war for what they have done to the people in Gaza. Hamas would be justified in attacking Israel's military (not Israeli citizens), but Israel's military is far to strong to win an actual war against them. So instead they attacked Israel using guerrilla warfare tactics. Attacking Israeli citizens is obviously wrong, but so is the 15 year blockade. Guerrilla warfare is Hamas's only hope to end the blockade - winning a conventional war against Israel is near impossible.

Israel implemented a blockade after this occured to protect Israelis from Hamas. Hamas is a terrorist organization. Hamas does not care about their people. They were unwilling to compromise even though they knew the blockade was hurting the Palestinian people. It's a horrible situation. This will most likely never end. Also, Hamas attacked Israel knowing that it would lead to many lost lives amongst their people. They didn't care. They went in and did their damage, and only after they finished with their terror, they wanted to negotiate. Yeah, right. That's not how it works. Hamas might as well attack the British, since they started this whole thing. Ridiculous.
