From the above: ...the plume of moisture will cause catastrophic flooding this weekend in southern CA...I remember many people celebrating SD ocean temps hitting 80 degrees back in the summer of '18. I'm guessing those same folks won't be celebrating if/when their homes are flooded. I'm pretty sure we'll all survive and our reservoirs and aquifers can certainly use the water. That's a cool prediction, and if you're wrong and "someone" dies it's no skin off your back, right? 3" an hour on the Eastern slopes Sunday night? We will be extremely lucky if there's no loss of life. Too many f****** Sociopaths in the world without the capacity for empathy, if you ask me. And it always surprises me how willing they are to expose themselves on message boards. No employer will hire someone who exhibits sociopathic tendencies.

I'm a sociopath just because I said I don't think a few inches of rain is an apocalypse? Got it. If you live in an area where flooding is typical, you have had plenty of warning to prepare or leave.

I understand why you're back tracking. Those were dumb things to say. At least we both agree no one should listen to you or take your advice.

Using terms like sociopath isn't appropriate or necessary here
Totally dismissing a Tropical Storm hitting the San Diego region as a "no big deal" is just plain silly, and wrong

Side benefit for the rural part of the county a good inch of rain will help keep the ground moist which reduces the risk of fires.

photos.app.goo.gl/8DVLNtH8Dv6kjfMQ6This National Weather Service map updated 20 minutes ago shows areas on the coast could get 3" -5", mountains could get 5"+8". Accept the low end estimates at your own peril. That's how people die in tropical storms / hurricanes.

I said the first thing but nothing close to saying that this happens every summer. Please link back to where I said the latter or anything close to it. I did say significant rain in the summer is something we should welcome. Not sure if you have looked at our reservoir levels, better than a year ago, but can always use more. I am not back tracking at all. I just don't panic every time there is a weather event. Will people die during this storm event? Sure. But people die when the weather is clear too. Now if a tree blows over onto a house and kills someone, I consider that storm related. But, if someone decides to cross a river in their car I consider that death by stupidity. I am most definitely going to prepare for this coming event. Will take my flag down in case the wind is over 30 mph.

Forecasts are 1.5-2 inches west of the mountains and 5-7 inches in mountains and deserts. Not exactly unheard of amounts for the region. As dry as it is, I think any flooding would be rather localized and fleeting, not like having five consecutive days of rain during the winter where everything runs off. I just don't buy into the hyperbole that seems to show itself every time there is a weather event.

If the storm were to coming in tomorrow I would have headed up to our place in Julian. Beautiful view of the desert and mother nature would be putting on a helluva show.

Water temp was closer to 60 than 70 this morning. And no waves, this storm is having the opposite effect I had hoped for.

Anyone here old enough recall Hurricane Doreen in August of 1977? Dropped over 2 inches here in San Diego. 10 inches in Jacumba in just a few hours..blew out the I-8 at Ocotillo. And the San Diego and Arizona Eastern Railway got washed out.
