they should sell, organizational depth is horrible. time to replenish some depth, namely pitching and the outfield. It's not terrible depth, it's just consolidated at the lower levels for the most part. Starting to see the first wave hit Double-A. Yeah we should fortify our depth for next year by getting some AAA/rookie type arms with several years of team control. Snell and Hader are good enough to fetch a big return. We need more pitching depth to make a run next year. Lugo is a decent piece as well.

Yes, we need depth that is closer to Major League ready that can help us next year, so Double A depth most likely won't be immediate help. Great for the future, but we all want to win it all now. That should be the goal every year.

I'm wary of Preller's propensity for trading guys away.
Gave Josh Naylor (.310- 14 HRs- 73 RBI) and Quantrill (23-8 the past two years) and 4 others for Clevinger(9-8 over two seasons) and two others. Gave Ty France (2022 All-Star) Tramell, Torrens and Munoz for Nola, Altavila and Adams Trea Turner (lifetime .296 BA) for basically Will Myers Max Fried (56-26 3.05 ERA lifetime) for Justin Upton Drew Pomeranz (17-6 the following year for Boston) for Espinoza.
Yes I know about James Shields for Tatis. I'm reminded that even a blind squirrel finds an acorn occasionally.

The Clevinger deal was good process, just didn't work out with the injuries Clevinger endured. He's also made many, many good trades. Nature of the game. Some work, some don't.

Actually he hasn't made that many great trades. He's signed a lot of guys but not great trades. Signed: Manny, Bogaerts, Kim Soto trade still has to play out with Abrams, Gore, Wood and Hassell all possible studs. www.eastvillagetimes.com/every-j-preller-trade-revisited/6/He traded for Joe Musgrove which was good but he did give up Bednar (All-Star), Hudson Head and Endy Rodriguez (one of highest rated prospects still) Cronenworth for Renfroe not a great trade yet. Darvish and Snell trades were good ones.

Yes I know about James Shields for Tatis. I'm reminded that even a blind squirrel finds an acorn occasionally. Well actually Preller is really good at identifying talent. The team has done a great job in the draft and signing international players. The issue is that he frequently gives away too much talent for guys that are already in the Majors. Basically giving up a bunch of talent long term to get guys that cam contribute now. That's why so many of the deals look lopsided, because several years after the fact they are. The Nola trade was a bust, the Cronenworth trade - he's had a bad season this year. But also, doesn't he look a lot better if he's playing second instead of first? The expectations for hitting are lower at that position. I get that they moved him for Kim to have an everyday job. But doesn't this team look a lot better with a true slugging first basemen, and Cronenworth and Kim playing different positions on different days allowing the slugging first basemen/Bogaerts/Machado to take turns DHing?

Ty France and Teoscar Hernandez are reportedly on the block.
Maybe bringing in one of those guys could inspire some late inning pressure situation hitting from the current lineup. France would make a good 1B DH addition.

We've already seen a few AA call ups. So that's encouraging going forward. Sept is coming.

He was having a great season, got traded to us, then was awful for the rest of the season. Or look at the Adam Frazier trade, he had a good season up to the trade deadline, then regressed in a Pads uniform. On the flip side, look at Hader. Had a rocky season up to the trade deadline, then figured things out. Trading for a guy that has underperformed their career numbers up to the deadline is a good buy low type approach - better then trading for a guy that has had a year better then their career numbers and set to regress.

I don't think that's universally true myself.

Very good points. You're right, I wouldn't let the fact that France is currently not having a great year, so to speak, deter me from going out and getting him. I'm not saying to go get him, but I wouldn't necessarily let that affect my overall decision making in going after him, or not.

Applying blanket statements to obvious outliers like Hader (who Niebla and PD worked with a TON to get right) is not indicative of a situation like a 0.6 WAR DH who is a Cronenworth clone right now. They need a lefty, not a righty.

Maybe you missed it where I said, I'm not saying to get France, but just really using it as an example as to not use his current productivity as a main reason to not get him, or others, just because they are currently not tearing it up.

I didn't miss it. His underlying numbers show heavy regression and he's a poor fit for what they need right now, a lefty DH/1B type with power.

Unfortunately and apparently, Bellinger is off the market.
Likely doesn't matter anyway, as they will probably drop all three games in Colorado they way they're going right now. Unbelievable. They crushed Texas. They can't hit Gomber Pyle in Denver. Annoying, embarrassing, and very much the way this entire season through tonight has gone. They don't need to buy or sell. Until they address some of their fundamental problems, it's not going to matter. And those problems aren't simply a hitter and a pitcher. Goes much deeper than that.
Maybe Cronenworth's triple will start a rally. Maybe not.

What good lefty first basemen are out there that are available?
And we lose in Coors. We continue to lose to bad teams..
