Wow. What a mess with the MWC. Not surprising this isn’t going easy. Just one more reason to hate the MWC. MWC should be locked out of SD. Don't schedule any games MW teams and allow them easy recruiting trips, especially the Mountain schools.

"• I am told by sources that the Pac-12 had the potential media-rights partners model deals that included both San Diego State and SMU. No surprise there. I am told the conference “looked at every scenario” by a source in the room. The Pac-12 even asked potential partners for media models that involved UCLA."
"How does the Pac-12 get north of the Big 12’s figure without USC and UCLA as part of the media package? I did some poking around with sources at media companies. Nobody I spoke with believes the Pac-12 can eclipse a $32 million-per-school average distribution without including both San Diego State and SMU."
The DFW market has 2.96 million TV households. It would immediately become the Pac-12’s biggest television market. San Diego has 1.13 million television homes. It’s more comparable to Portland and Salt Lake City.
The Pac-12 is losing 5.7 million TV homes in one unfortunate swoop with USC and UCLA leaving. Adding SMU and San Diego State helps replace that divot with a combined 4.1 million homes."
"It sure has been quiet at SMU, hasn’t it? The Mustangs got a visit from Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff during basketball season. The visit went public. I’ve written a lot about this, but the conference was annoyed and blamed SMU’s side for the leak. Ultimately, I don’t think the Pac-12 seriously holds that against the Mustangs. I mean, the school brings nearly 3 million television homes to the table. That is a solid peace offering."
Would the Pac-12 add San Diego State via expansion but not SMU? Maybe, but I find it increasingly unlikely. A source on campus at the Dallas-based institution told me the Pac-12 continued to engage with SMU after the Kliavkoff visit.
Unless I am missing something, the media-rights range I keep hearing doesn’t work without the DFW television households included. Also, SMU is so intensely motivated to join that it would definitely join at a discount.
As one well-placed source at SMU told me on Friday morning: “My sense continues to be that we will be included if they expand.”

Not sure what else the MWC should do at this point. SDSU signed the contract agreeing to the fee structure. Why wouldn't the league want to hold to the agreement?
Ultimately, I am sure something will be negotiated.

SDSU wouldn’t send that letter if they weren’t damn sure they were getting an invite somewhere.

SDSU wouldn’t send that letter if they weren’t damn sure they were getting an invite somewhere. I certainly hope not. Sounds a little like they were thinking they were being considerate and it backfired.

Everyone on this board who has any connections know we have a standing verbal offer to join the Pac 12. Either people at SDSU are completely clueless or the Pac 12 would have to do some crazy backstabbing.
If you want to assume anything other than SDSU has a firm promise that a formal Pac 12 invite is on its way, then you are basically presuming the people at SDSU are liars or those of us connected are liars, or I suppose the Pac 12 presidents/officials are liars.

I think the point is that the school is taking a major risk by formally leaving the conference without a written agreement in place with another conference. What happens if the verbal agreement is rescinded for whatever reason, cause that’s possible. We would be screwed and may have to go independent until we could figure out a solution.

If we are SO sure of an invite, why are we asking for a one month extension? Kinda bush league to me. We could just withdraw, wait a month, and then join when officially offered. If I was the MWC, I would tell us to pound sand, tbh.

SDSU wouldn’t send that letter if they weren’t damn sure they were getting an invite somewhere. The letter just says they intend to resign, not that they are resigning. Question is who leaked this info, the MGC?

Ultimately, I am sure something will be negotiated. The fees were raised recently. If that vote was not unanimous and specifically State voted against the increase, then they should fight the increase in court. What would stop the MW from taking a vote today that the exit fee is $100M?

Did we have an exit fee when BYU went independent?

Then we should be pressuring Pac-12 to officially invite us by end of month. No reason for MWC to help us out by giving a one month extension. Ridiculous to even ask, imo. Cringe-worthy even, now that its out in public.

We are damn lucky all the dominoes have fallen in our favor to get this far, on the doorstep of a Pac 12 invite. The Pac 12 is working on their own time table and will get to SDSU when they can.

We have been playing games against byu, this will not be held against mwc members in future ooc scheduling .
MWC is simply doing what is in their best interest and sdsu is doing what is in our best interest
