“I chose San Diego State over the rest of the schools because ever since I started building that relationship with the coaches, they made sure to build one with those around me as well,” Compton said. “That’s really important when you’re getting ready to move away from your family onto somewhere whom a limited amount of time to build a relationship with. Even after I visited the university, it just felt right. Most importantly, they have a winning culture. I’m not shy at all when it comes to winning and playing defense; two things that are a staple of San Diego State basketball.” We're in very good shape in 2024-25 and beyond: Davis Byrd DeGourville Saunders Heide Compton Gwath Demarshay Majak With Lamont, Reese, Micah, and Pal all having an extra year option. Scary good at the wing. Strong down low. Bring in our usual 18ppg guard in the portal and things are looking BRIGHT.

not sure Jay Pal can come back unless he red shirts this season think this is his 5th season
Lamont if he has strong season is likely headed to NBA ?
Micah Parrish and Reese Weathers could come back unless they have breakout season ?

understand your point - just trying to keep expectations under control do remember Zylan and Winston - We watch clips of PF/C that just dominate in HS when they are playing against less physical and or smaller opponents then have some transitions when they hit college ranks But hope you are correct Always channeling Debbie Downer.

Refresher. I love his aggressive, emotional play. He can set the the tone and shape the identity of the program in the near future. Haven't seen this intensity in a player since Jamaal Franklin was here. Oldie Out I like the comparison... dude definitely seems like a combo of Maal & Draymond Green (which is a very good thing) I disagree. I see Montrezl Harrell. Maal was a wing. and Draymond is a point forward. This guy is a finisher, with elite hops. Not a lot of video of him dribbling the ball which was a strength of Maal and Green

Anyone have any stats on Compton? From his highlight reel, all I can see are some swats on defense and dunks on offense. Shooting percentage? FT%? 3pt%? In high school, why shoot when you can just slam the ball at will? But in college, that luxury fades in a hurry. It doesn’t fade for a guy with elite length/athleticism/quick second jump. Is he going to ever average 16 ppg for us? No, but he’s quite good and will get second chance opportunities, chances to finish in transition, and in the “dunker” spot. Think josh davis with better rim finishing

Will wait to see if he is really 6'6, 6'5, or 6'7.

I don't think someone who is less than 6'7 can usually dunk that easily, although he looks to have really long arms. He doesn't even need to gather himself or take a step though. Dude looks like an elite athlete and I'd think he's a very legit 6'7, possibly 6'8 I like the Josh Davis comparison. This guy looks to elevate more and be a more aggressive finisher. Josh Davis was an absolute monster

Someone said they saw him & Taj together at the FB game & Compton was easily 4" taller & Taj is supposedly 6'3-6'4.

Compton highlights look good.
But Dunk, Dunk, Dunk, Dunk. Jump shot? Dribble drive? Create a shot?

Shooting matters but Pharaoh will be a very good player for us without that, and yes he can't shoot. You can be a very good player without shooting, we have had our fair share of very good players that couldn't shoot.

I believe that Arop at 6'7" also had a 7'4" wingspan (which he used to help win the Final Four game against FAU, BTW.)

Yes, you don't have to be a shooter. Pharaoh's playing style is similar to this guy, in my opinion. www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jfE4IGIxpg Known for his dunks and blocks in college.

If he measured off, at lets say Portsmouth or in Summer League, it would be out there.

Josh Davis was a really good player for us, but yes, he was a terrible finisher. He would blow tons of gimmies.
